The staff at TIG is committed to making sure that our community grows and flourishes in a safe environment. Over the last few weeks we have seen two similar incidents involving the sale of items that the "seller" did not own or have claim to. We are overjoyed that no money changed hands but the absence of a victim doesn't mean that something wrong did not occur. We are implementing the following rules for selling in any TIG classified section to avoid any issues and prevent the crime from happening. It's like "Minority Report" without a nutty actor/scientologist telling us what to do.
If you are going to put up a F/S post or solicit another TIG member in PM you must meet the criteria below. TIG moderators will be spot checking to ensure these are followed. ANY violation of the rules will result in your F/S being deleted and a 1 week ban. Any subsequent violations will result in a more permanent consequence.
SELLING - If you are selling an item you must actually own the item and have access to the item. It must belong to you solely and, if requested, be available for pictures, viewing, etc...
INTERMEDIARY - If you are selling for a friend, relative, shaman, etc. you must declare that you are not the owner of record. You must explain in detail why you are selling these, what your relation is to the goods and the accessibility of the items in regards to viewing, photos, shipping, validity of description, etc. The consequences as outlined above will apply to the poster (not owner) in this case so if someone asks you to post items you should be certain of accuracy.
TRADES/3 Way Deals - In the event where you and other persons are doing a complex trade (you will sell a person's MOC to a buyer and then send the MOC owner an item of yours so you end up with the cash e.g.) is fine but again there must be full disclosure. The seller must let the buyer know that the item is not his own and coming from a 3rd party. You do not need to discuss the financials, but it should be clear that you are not in possession of the item directly.
We understand there is some room for interpretation in these rules. If you have a question or example you'd like to put forth just reply here and ask. We will answer promptly so you can get you post up quickly!
Keep in mind these rules are not about what you sell or how much. If you have a beater Klaatu with no skirt you want 1000 Euros for, go for it! What we are trying to address are situations where a poster tries to sell items that aren't his and he can't guarantee he will be able to get. There have been 2 situations involving this. One situation was a person contacted with an offer for MOCs. The seller saw them for sale on another website and was selling them. If the potential buyer did purchase them, the seller would collect the funds and then buy the items from the true seller. The second instance was a formidable F/S post in another forum showcasing over $100,000 worth of rare items. The poster postured he was the owner but, in fact, was not. This created a problem since people couldn't get photos and the "seller" didn't even know if pieces were available.
These rules/guidelines are only in place to ensure our members safety but it only works if people are vigilant in both following the rules and letting a moderator know if there is a breach of the rules.
