I didn't want to hijack Jimmy's thread, so thought I would post this here for us to discuss. I actually think it looks like it could be a good remake, but do still wish Robert Englund was playing Freddy again. Here is the trailer.

Hmmm looks good actually i see Micheal Bay is at the helm.

I like the fact that it covers the parents hunting down Kruger the man and setting him on fire at the plant.

I still think Robert Englund should have been cast though.

I hadn't heard about this either actually till Shawn mentioned it but I read this interview yesterday from Robert Englund, doesn't say why he isn't in it but on another site it just said New Line cinema hadn't renewed his contract..

Whilst the fans have been less than forgiving, Freddy Krueger himself, Robert Englund, has expressed how he feels about being replaced in the role which made him a genre icon. Jackie Earle Haley, previously seen in the likes of Watchmen, will don the glove and hat and terrorise the kids of Elm Street, including Nancy Thompson (Rooney Mara).

“I’m a fan,” says Englund regarding his successor. “Jackie is not big, and I think that Jackie’s size is gonna really work for him as Freddy Krueger. Because I’ve always in my mindset imagined… One of the metaphors or one of the images I’ve used for Freddy is a little rabid dog that just bites your ankle and holds on. A little yelping dog. And I think Jackie brings that, with his own physicality, to the role, without ever having to work it a little bit. He doesn’t really have to work that. He brings that naturally with who he is, which I think is really part of the way I see it.”

Englund has even expressed how he feels the time has come for Elm Street to be re-invented. “I think of all the recent remakes – whether it was Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Friday the 13th or Halloween – of all of them, the original Nightmare on Elm Street, as wonderful and as frightening and as original as Wes Craven’s is, I do know – I was there – I do know we almost ran out of money, and it lends itself to the new technology, more so than any of these other remakes, except perhaps King Kong. So I really am looking forward to how they exploit the dreamscape with CGI and all of the new technologies that they have at their fingertips. That is something I think that is appropriate and that’s what I’m looking forward t
o.”

You can read it here - http://retroslashers.net/blog/robert-englund-talks-new-freddy-krueger/

It might still be good, I don't think that Robert Englund is necessarily the greatest actor of all time, it's just that he IS Krueger for the fans and not many like change.

Speaking of remakes we watched Rob Zombies Halloween 2 and it was pretty gory but apart from that it was pretencious dog shit crap plot zero charachter developmentr no suspense or build up totally crap imo.

It does seem hollywood is completely out of new ideas these days about half of the main film releases are remakes T4, A team. All the horror remakes the list goes on and on.

Thanks for the link Joe. I know from what I have read, Englund is fine with the new actor and has his blessing. Hopefully it will all work out and end up being pretty good. I didn't mind the Friday the 13th remake too much either. I liked how they made it simply follow after the original 1st movie. Michael Bay was also producer on that one.

I know what you mean Jay. There are way to many remakes going on right now it seems. I just saw a new trailer too for the Clash of the Titans remake.

Total crap!!!

Hollywood needs to take a 10 year break from making movies, so writers, directors and producers can come up with some new ideas!!! All the remakes suck... all the excessive sequels suck, and the cartoon to movie transitions (GI Joe, Transformers) are horrible as well!!!

LEAVE THE CLASSICS ALONE!!!!

Speaking of remakes have you seen the new Karate Kid movie trailer? Talk about poo poo poo poo poo poo

Okay one final bump for this thread. Very Happy

I finally saw the movie on opening night last weekend. The critics have been tearing it to shreds, but I actually enjoyed it for the most part. They introduced a few new ideas and obviously took a lot from the original. I do still prefer the original probably for nostalgias sake, but will probably buy the remake when it comes out on DVD. I had fun with it and Freddy had some good lines. I just read that a 2nd film has supposedly been greenlit and now that the remake is out of the way, I'm interested to see where they go from here.

I'm sure I'm one of the few. lol

The guys who do Star Wars Action News also do a movie podcast and reviewed it last week. Out of the 3 only one of them liked it, but the one that did, was the only one who was a big NOES fan. Like all movies, I think it just depends on the person.
