PostSubject: Rancor Keeper Variations    Fri Aug 06, 2010 3:37 pm

Hey,

I went through my Rancor Keepers and I noticed that the Taiwan version came in at least two versions. One has the deep purple belt the other a more reddish purple belt. I tried to capture the difference by camera.

From left to right:
  • Taiwan deep purple belt
  • Taiwan deep purple belt (just another one)
  • Taiwan reddish purple belt
  • LL reddish purple belt (just for comparison) Edit: At the end of this thread this figure turned out to be a no COO but not a Lili Ledy

I was wondering whether I am looking at a known variation or just a case of discoloration?

Anyone?

Good questions!!!

The only major variations I know of for the Rancor Keeper are the Hard/Soft Hood and his Vibroblade

Hi Dan,

What color your LL Rancor Keeper's boots have? I was not aware of two LL variants, but I immediately admit, I am not an expert.

I started this topic coz I was wondering about the dark purple belt of the two Taiwan Rancor Keepers on the left.

Cheers,
Marco

I'll check my Rancor keepers when I get home- the 'skin' of the LL one does not look correct to me it should be more pink?
EDIT: 2 different colour no COO versions

my only Taiwan (soft hood)

A couple of Ledys

My MOCs are too yellowed to comment further about colours.

I beleive there are two LL variant's.I have the grey boot version, the more rare variant is the green boot version.I wish i had the green boot version,it's rare like a ledy 78 R2D2.There both on my want list.I already know one person with a Ledy 78 R2D2.Wolff has first dib's on it.If Rob ever sell's it.

I have a pic of a dude's collection who has the shiny dark green boot variation, but i forgot his name,i'm sure someone here on TIG know's this guy's name maby they'll chime in with info, but yeah the Ledy variant's of the variant's are the hardest to get, there's not many around, and the ones that have them are taking them to there grave, lol! lol! lol! lol! lol! lol!

EDIT: 2 different colour no COO versions

James:

The deep purple and reddish purple belts in your no COO versions seem to match the different coloured belts seen in my Taiwan versions (2nd and 3rd guy in the picture below). Meaning these different coloured belts are present in no COO and Taiwan versions at least?

Dan:
Don't worry, my LL(?) Rancor Keeper has grey not green boots. The colours on the picture above seem to be a bit faded, a combination of my crappy camera and bad light. I made a few new pics this morning. Hope that helps.

What do you guys think, is this a LL or a 'non LL' no COO? In the last picture I put him togehter with my Taiwan soft hood, light vibroblade, deep purple belt.

LL or 'non LL' that is the question

Taiwan left, LL(?) right

Gandi: LOL pictures.
Now let's give this guy some decent cloths and hair finally.

There is no HK or Hong Kong version? Do your 2 Taiwan's have slightly different leg markings?
Does your 'LL' one look different (the skin plastic) to your no COO versions? Sorry to answer your questions with 3 questions Laughing The LL Rancor is a figure that has haunted me & is quite difficult to verify.

rofl rofl rofl rofl That bottom pic of that dude was hilarious.

My Ledy Rancor Keeeper has a real hard plastic helmet with the letter "A" in it.

The Ledy staff is realy dark grey with a hint of greenish tint to it.If you put a Ledy staff next to a kenner light grey and dark grey staff's the Ledy will be way way darker then the Kenner dark grey staff and it has greenish tint to it.

My Ledy racor keeper figure is peach/pinkish hue on arm's&face. The body is slighlty darker but same hue.

Mine definitley has the same coo as in the pic james put up of wolff's pic#3

Hi guys, thanks for your help sofar!!!

I made some close up pics of the date stamps to compare them to Wolf's overview.

To be honest, I have some difficulties to distinguish the very subtle differences but I will give it a try:
  • 1 + 2: are the same and correspond to the top left corner Taiwan COO in Wolf's overview
  • 3: I would say it is the same date stamp as 1 and 2. Note that there is some play(?) wear in the '8' of '1984'. Also the periods/points '.' in L.F.L. seems to be a bit less pronounced. Due to wear of the used molding during its production life time?
  • 4: Difficult to say, first I thought this date stamp corresponds to the LL version in Wolf's overview. Then I noticed the distance between the '(c)' and the 'L' of L.F.L.' is a tiny bit longer, making it a no COO date stamp according to Wolf's overview? (top middle). What do u guys think?

The figure has a vibroblade which is much darker than its Kenner counterpart as can be seen from the previous pictures. Unfortunately I don't have a dark grey Kenner vibroblade to compare to. BTW: what is the origin of this darker kenner version?
The hood is made form very hard plastic and inside there is a 'A'.
I don't have other no COO Rancor keepers to compare the skin colour.

Overview

No. 1: Taiwan Deep purple belt

No. 2: Taiwan Deep purple belt

No. 3: Taiwan Reddish purple belt

No. 1: no COO (LL?) Reddish purple belt

Hard to tell by the face (seems a little to light and does not match the body) from the pics but the coo does match up with the (c) L separation. I always try not to guess based on colors because of differences in cameras and lighting. From the COO alone it does appear to be ledy. Belt also looks good for color. I have 5 Ledy rancors and the COOs all vary. Really the face/body color is your best bet. Not much help I suppose but I need to be holding the figure to give you a sure answer Marco.

Hope that helps

Jason

I have to agree Jason: the no coo has a too pale face...so no Ledy IMO!

Probably camera flash is making everything look pale or white,I know when i take pic's with my camera there either over flashed or too dark.I too have a hard time taking a pic to show the exact detail's like pinkish hue's on plastic or taking pik's of white colored figure's and trying to show differences in shades of color's.

I think the coo on the #4 pic look's right, and he say's the helmet has an "A" inside it possibly could be Ledy.It is a hard figure to determine.Who did you buy it from Dr.Dengar.Did it come from a dealer in Mexico?what is his name.

Kenner made a light grey and dark grey version"no coo" of the vibroblade. The Ledy version is much darker then the Kenner dark grey version. Here is a pic from Wolff it show's the difference's betwee the three. The Ledy vibroblade is not easy to get.

When you finally do get one you'll be celebrating over it because you will appreciate it from how long it took to find one. I just recently was able to get a real one and it was awesome to finally get the real thing.Ledy weapon's are harder to get then Ledy figure's.seriously it does'nt even matter how much money you spend on them.I have paid for ledy weapon's and have received kenner plenty of times. This stuff is getting hard to aquire.

PostSubject: Re: Rancor Keeper Variations    Tue Aug 10, 2010 3:47 pm

Hi guys,

Thanks for all your big help, this really brings me forwards!!

Let me try to summarize:

There appears to be (at least) two versions of the Taiwan Rancor Keeper. Deep purple belt and Reddish purple belt. The two types of belts can also be observed in no COO figures (see Aussie James pictures), therefore I guess this is a genuine variation. The origin may be true pigment variation or variation in the degradation of the same pigment. Anyone any idea here?

A Ledy Rancor Keeper was added in the first line-up picture just for comparison reasons, and very soon the focus of this thread switched from belt color to the authenticity of this figure: no COO or Ledy?

The figure (no. 4 in the pictures) has
  • The right COO for a Ledy
  • A hard plastic hood with an “A” inside (see the picture below, difficult to grasp by camera, but I hope you get the idea).
  • A dark vibroblade (though I can not tell whether it matches the dark grey Kenner version or the LL, as I have only one dark vibroblade)

The skin color however does not seem to match to LL (too pale) and therefore the figure is considered a non LL. Especially the head seems very pale.

Well I have to accept it guys, I lost one Ledy today but at least I gain one interesting no COO figure.
Wolff, yesterday I read your post in the thread about the Luke poncho, and learned something about the different types of pigment/plastic degradation. Can we exclude that in this particular figure some pigments in the plastic were subject to degradation/sublimation causing the atypical paleness (after spending too much time in the Mexican sun 2,5 decades ago ).

BTW: I bought the ex-LL figure via ebay from a respected and trustfully UK based seller. I am quite sure he thought this was a Ledy. I can not blame him, this figure seems to be a border case after all.

Hi guys, I thought I'd add a couple of pics of the Rancor Keeper I bought recently - I posted it on the latest purchases thread
and Marco spotted it had the dark version vibroblade -

I investigated further then checked this thread - here's a few pics for you to chew over -

in summary my Rancor Keeper seems to have:

the purple/red pants....dark colour vibroblade....pink and even skin tones....grey boots....no coo....
harder plastic hood....and the letter 'A' stamped inside hood.
He also has a number of mold spots mainly across both arms.

Photos were taken at night with flash - vibroblade actually looks darker than on pics. Clearly there is the 'A' in
the hood the same as Marco's pic. I can try some daylight pics as these are a bit flash heavy.

PostSubject: Re: Rancor Keeper Variations    Sat Aug 14, 2010 2:12 pm

I was asked a question via pm bei marco (dr_dengar) and I will answer in this thread...

1. HOODS

There are 3 kinds of hoods for the rancor keepers:

- soft hoods with circle
- hard hoods with letters
- very hard hoods with letters (Ledy).

to differ between a hard hood kenner and a hard hood Ledy is nearly impossible if you only have one of them! So you need both to feel and see the differences!

So if you have one hard hood you cannot be sure if its Ledy or not!

2. LETTERS

I posted once a pic with a Ledy hood with A.....fact is: All letters can appear here! You do not only use one mold to produce accessories. The letters mark the different molds so that the employees can see wich mold is defect!

I only saw A and C on Rancor hoods....and there is for 100% also a B one...

Also I think ALL letters also can appear on Ledy hoods!

SUMMARY:

Its not possible to identify a Ledy hood because of its letter or being hard!

Thats the sad fact.

Mine (LL) is harder then the no coo rancor keepers hard once and also a bit darker.....so if you have both you will see the differences!

Hope this helps

Wolff
