PostSubject: Rob's Squid Head stuff   Wed Jan 13, 2010 7:29 pm

Hey everyone,

Here are some Squid Heads!
I’ve had this focus for a few years now, and it has been a lot of fun putting together the various releases of good ol’ Squiddy.
Along the way I’ve met a lot of great people, and have been pointed in the direction of figures I otherwise might not have found.

Kenner 65-A Proof Card

Kenner 65-A

Kenner 65-A with Dutch Clipper offer (white sticker)

Palitoy 65-A

Palitoy 65-A with double stem bubble

Palitoy 65-A with double stem bubble and Dutch Clipper offer (black sticker)

Palitoy 65-A with one missing tentacle on Squid’s head (factory error!)

Kenner 65-B Proof Card with Revenge Of The Jedi text on the back

Kenner 65-B

Kenner 65-B with oddball COO printed on the back “Made in Hong Kong or Taiwan as labelled herein”

Kenner 65-B with Japanese Tsukuda sticker on the back

Kenner 65-C

Kenner 77-A

Kenner 77-A with free coin offer

Kenner 77-A Made In Mexico

Kenner 77-A Made In Mexico no hole-punch in the back of the card (just about every MIM carded figure has a hole punch, but it looks like a few left the factory with no hole punch)

Kenner 77-B with free Anakin offer & sticker over the assortment number

Kenner 92-A POTF Proof Card

Tri-Logo

Tri-Logo miscard (on Ree-Yees card back)

Kenner baggie figures:

Made In Hong Kong

Made In Mexico

No text Tri-Logo green cape (ESB-h style baggie)

ROTJ 2-packs with:

Leia

Leia (Endor)

Han (Trench Coat)

Greedo

Weequay

ROTJ 3-pack

ROTJ 8-pack

Lili Ledy first shot in non-production colours, and not sonic-welded
Torso and arms: unpainted
Left leg: semi-translucent white
Right leg: yellow and blue
Head: standard Ledy (production type)

Loose figures:

(All of my loose figures are packed away --- I’m preparing to move apartments, so I couldn’t take any new photos of them, sorry! So here are some old photos instead)

Back row:
Scarred-out COO
HK COO
AFA 90 HK COO
Lili Ledy regular cape (No COO)

Front row:
Brown cape {starting to fade into a light brown} (HK COO)
Lili Ledy red cape (No COO)
"Light red / feint red" {the beginning of fabric colour degradation!}(HK COO)
Brown cape (HK COO)

Other pictures:

Extra-long green cape / regular length green cape comparison (both HK COO)

Extra-long brown cape (HK COO)

Lili Ledy red cape (No COO)

Lili Ledy dark stitching / light stitching comparisons

Card backs:
I have 2 (out of the 3) Toltoys card backs, as well as the Kenner 65-A, 65-B and 77-A card backs, but for the life of me couldn’t find which box I’d put them in….when I do find my card backs, I’ll update with some new photos.

There are still a whole bunch of Squids I don’t have, for which I’ll eventually be putting up a “Wanted To Buy” thread:

Kenner first shot figure

Kenner protomold figure

Kenner hardcopy parts

Kenner photo art

Kenner 65-A with “Made In China” printed on the back

Kenner 65-A with “Made In Hong Kong” sticker on the back

Kenner 65-A Wicket bubble test (Wicket figure on Squid Head card)

Kenner Squid Head figure on Chief Chirpa card back (bubble test / sample card)

Hope you all enjoy!
Rob.

T.K.O Rob!

That run has grown amazingly ! Thanks so much for the updated pictures, it was well worth the wait and great to see how far you have come in such a short time (only a few years!!)

What is the story on the Ledy first shot? I haven't seen that ever nor noticed it up for sale?? Great piece!

Fantastic focus Rob, I am sure many will get a kick out of this thread!

Hi Joe and Chris,

Thanks very much for the kind words Smile

The Ledy first shot was part of a find by Tyler H. years ago who then sold it to another Squid collector, who offered it to me in a private sale about a year ago. I need to dig it out again and take some proper photographs, since this photo is quite old now!

Cheers,
Rob.

1 sheep, 3 sheep, 1 squid, 500 squid- not squids? Razz I like the 3 tentacle version & the variants I have never looked for- long capes and stitching colour versions. Has a 79 back cardback ever surfaced?

Amazing collection!!!

Squid Head question for you!!!

I acquired a ROTJ Squid Head MOC from a fellow Gunner... it is a Made in Mexico. What kind of COO stamp is going to be on the leg?

Unfortunately I've never seen, or heard of, a 79-back version ever being found. Hopefully one will show up eventually Smile

It will be the No COO version (Made In Mexico version, not the scarred-out No COO version). The loose figure version is easy to spot since there are significant differences between the Mexico and non-Mexico Squids.

Cheers,
Rob.

I think you're right mate.
I'll double-check that tonight. I've photographed the COO's of all of my loose Squids, so it should be easy to find Smile

Wow Rob! Your focus has come a very long way in a short amount of time.

You have to love the proofs and the white Clipper sticker! Smile

What do you have in your sights next? Looks like there are a lot of Squid goodies out there to pick up yet.

Very impressive run Rob! Every time I see an unproduced POTF proof it makes me wish Kenner could have released all 93 on POTF cards. I also didn't know a 79 back hadn't been found. You would think he must exist on that card.

I just got to looking at this again, and have to say that the Palitoy 65A's are quite cool as well. I'm trying to track one down for my run too, so that's quite impressive to me. Smile

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the kind words - it's appreciated, and I'm glad that people are enjoying the pictures.

Hi Chris,

Quote :

There are still plenty of Squids I’d love to get, plus I’m very slowly filling in the gaps in the main collection (coins, MOC, vehicles, posters) so there will be no shortage of stuff to track down!

Actually, the Palitoy carded figures are a real favourite of mine – lovely crystal clear bubbles, offerless (on the front). I am trying to get more, especially any unpunched ROTJ carded figures Smile

Hi Shawn,

Quote :

Same here! I would have loved to have seen characters like Squiddy, 2-1B, Power Droid, Boba Fett (and all the others) released on 93-backs.
I've got a photo of a sample POTF carded 2-1B (Toy Fair sample) and he just looks fantastic on a POTF card. Wish I owned it!

Quote :

I really hope he does exist on a 79-back. You never know what might turn up --- if rare, unproduced figures and samples can turn up, then hopefully a production / released-at-retail 79-back will turn up too!

Quote :
What made you choose him for your focus?

After first seeing ROTJ back in ’83, the Jabba’s Palace sequence really stood out to me – I loved the look of all the lowlifes, criminals, losers and gangsters there. They just looked awesome!

Squiddy really stood out to me: funky robes, smooth looking sarong...he was obviously some type of criminal (spice dealer maybe?) Great stuff!
My Mum never bought me the Squid figure (she thought he looked “too strange” haha!) but she did buy me Leia Boushh and Luke Jedi instead, so I was still happy.

Cheers,
Rob.

Hey Josh,

Thanks very much Smile

I couldn't get a group shot done this time around (lack of good lighting and space!) I will do one, but it will probably have to wait a few weeks or longer until I move apartments.

Cheers,
Rob.
