since I'm working an a jabba and maybe a boba fett ... I thought I'd use up some left over glass I have for an idea of making stained glass images of the vintage figures

give you an idea of what it looks like at the start ... glass scraps

Pattern

after getting the pattern out and worked on cut and broke down to size

next will come grinding the pieces down to correct size and shape

Awesome, Rusco.
I am looking forward to this big time.
Like I've said, this is the coolest thing to come out of the hobby for me in ages. Thinking about having a crack at it myself.

for sure it's a fun hobby ... biggest thing is the cost for tools ... a soldering iron is about 70 to 100 us dollars ... a fair glass grinder is about 100 us dollars ... some get even higher ... solder is about 20 to 30 bucks per roll ... glass is about 10 to 20 for a 12 inch by 12 inch piece. foil is about 10 bucks per roll.

you'll need a glass cutter cheap ones are 5 the one I use is a bit better cost about 20 ... cheap ones are find they do the same thing ... flux is about 5 bucks ... and for sure have safty glasses ... breaking pliers help to have also they'r about 15

but for sure worth it. took a filler class of it and fell in love with it ... just so much fun. and then to have others enjoy some of the stuff I've made makes me feel good too lol

And your work is definately cooler IMO. Looking forward to the next update. Cool

made a video on how stained glass works ... I'm not very good at making videos so sorry it's not too great but gives you a basic idea of how it all works

thanks ... yeah you'll see it when it's done lol lol, might have noticed I have fun just posting updates as I go ... gives people an idea of what goes on in making them. I know before I learned how I was always puzzled by by the craft. what I'd love to do is learn how to paint the faces like the old churches have in their windows ... that's a whole other level of skills.

ok figures are done ... now should I use the background color based off the color behind the figure from the card back ... luke orange, chewy yellow, leia r2 blue ???

or maybe more like the colors behind them on the early card backs ... luke green leia purple .. chewy reddish r2 green again LOL ....

or just wing it? or all the same color?

I like the bubble area colours of the early cardbacks for each figure but as a lamp isn't 3 main background colours going to be too much? When you turn it on, the colours will distract from the figures themselves? But when the light isn't on - more colours are better.
So I choose wing it Razz

lol!

How hard is it to bung some eyes in there? Can you drill out the glass and then fill it with solder?

yeah I need to do something with chewy ... I might use some of that acid stuff they use for etching ... if it works I could add eyes on leia and luke also .. but will wait til the lamp is done.

for sure chewy needs a face ... as is he looks like a poop with limbs

I also fixed leia's arm so they're even and filled in the small hole by her neck ... and gave her the feet she was missing ...
