PostSubject: Yoda Olive Head with Hong Kong COO#3   Tue Aug 14, 2012 2:05 pm

I have just received a Yoda figure from the US. The figure has COO #3, and a special brownish green head. I made some pics together with a apple green Yoda which was also in the lot, to get the idea.

I have never seen such figure before, but maybe you have?

It might be just a case of discolouration?

Yoda. Left: COO #2, apple green head. Right: COO #3, brownish green head.

Marco

Was this from a lot of 3 Yoda's from Snakeriverman on ebay a couple of weeks ago? If it was, I was watching this auction as well and was curious about it also.

I will keep watching this thread to see what you find out.

That is one 'funky' Yoda. I've seen a couple with bownish spots (mold?) but not one with an evenly coloured brown head. As you suggested, I guess discolouration/ degredation would be the obvious explanation.

Thanks Wolff.

Chewies turning green, Yodas turning brown, will this madness never end? Very Happy

Man, what did you do to that poor Yoda, to let him transform like that?

Hmmm maybe I don't want to know....Very Happy

Seriously: More TIG members with similar Yodas? This is your chance to show him off!!

Hey Marco (and all you other folks Smile ) -

I was looking through old threads trying to identify a Yoda figure I have and stumbled across this thread . I agree with everyone that this brown head yodas head is discolored but , asside from the brown head issue , it is the same figure as I have . My figure has the same #3 coo , which seems to be a more uncommon coo than I normally see on the dark green yodas . My figure has more of a olive green head and darker green paint used on the limbs . I also noticed that the belt strings are sculpted differently and are close togeather while most yodas strings are spread apart (lili ledy yodas also seem to have the same sculpt) .

Basically I am just wondering if there is any more info available on the #3 coo variant and does it have a speacial name ? I have been refering to it as a "Olive Green" head but I am terrible at descibing colors . I have had another #3 coo recently and it had the same color head and dark paint used on the arms (as well as the close belt strings) .

I would love to post pictures but I still haven't figured out how to do it - if you are interested in seeing it I will gladly send you pics and maby you can post them Marco ? I am such a idiot with computers :I am stupid:
one of these days I will have to have my wife show me how to do the whole "image hosting" thing .

No problem James, happy to help. Very Happy (btw I'm Steve lol! )

Nice Yoda, I've not had one of those in hand.

Is it me, or does the head have a faint brown hue? The limbs certainly look darker. Could this variant have been made using less stable pigments in the plastic?

I found this one in a Kenner Baggie in the 5 pack box.. It's pretty rare. And yes mine is a dull green grey brown color as well.

Thanks James for bumpng this variant thread with some new info. Very Happy

COO#3 (and #6) indeed has a sculpt with the string belts hanging in paralel instead of diverging (sorry, dont know how to desribe this in an easy way in english).

Ledy probably used the same steelmould for their early Yoda version but that figure looks different, light green with orange eyes (see Ozio's special report in the Ledy thread).

From this thread and a RS thread earlier this week, it seems that the plastic used for this figure is more prone to degradation, causing the head and limbs to turn darker eventualy leading to the "poop" head. Very Happy

On a side note: I have an apple green Spanish Yoda (POCH?), also having COO#3.

While answering the RS thread, I found out that this figure has belt strings which are divergent instead of close together. Not what you would expect for a steelmould with COO#3. I discussed this with Wolff and we both agreed this figure must have a mixed welded torso, with a back and front originating from different moulds.

See below a comparison shot of this apple green Spanish Yoda (middle) with his apple green Kenner brothers. Note the belt springs which are divergent for the Spanish figure, like the other two Yodas, despite having COO#3.

Apple Green Yodas. From left to right: COO #2 (Kenner), COO #3 (POCH?), COO #2 (Kenner).

I agree that the heads are most likely the result of degradation but the paint on the arms too ? Seeing that it is a different coo , is it not possible that whatever factory made the #3 coo variants simply used a darker green paint ? I have seen 2 identical figures myself so it just makes me wonder .

Does anyone have a example of a #3 coo figure that does not show degradation in the head and/or paint color used on the limbs ? If so , I would love to see them Smile .

I was focussed on the pigments in the head which seem to be prone to discolouration, giving rise to brown greenish olive heads, even poop heads. Very Happy

Hey but you are right about the paint on the arms (and feet too, I guees) it seems darker green compared to other Yodas.

COO#3 YODAS:

(last two pics are taken from: http://forum.rebelscum.com/t1092484/ )

I also would like to see more examples of COO#3 Yodas...

Here is another Yoda having COO#3, from a just ended ebay listing. Cool

Note that also this figure has a brownish green olive head and darker green paint for the arms and feet.

So it seems to be a common thing for these COO#3 Yodas.

I think Yodas with COO#3 (and COO#6, same family) have accessories (belt, snake, snake) with ejector pin marks (small circles).
This applies to all Ledy Yodas, and probably for their Kenner counterparts as well.

Not absolutely sure about this though. Anyone?

Your orange snake Yoda indeed has a belt with ejector pin marks.

This is a COO #3 Yoda with dark glossy green hands and feet and the pale discoloured head. The head is also showing signs of discolouration with the 'polka dot' Ebola look going on.

This particular figure was manufactured by Kader Industries. Figures produced there seem to be the most prone to discolouration and fading. This is most likely a result of the plastic stock that they used.
