I noticed an ebay auction mentioning a short neck variant
There does seem to be a difference but not specific to a head mould.  The last figure is my childhood one & playwear has resulted in an extra long neck, which I had to jam a piece of paper in it to keep it extended  Laughing
I'm also dubious about a red vs orange eye 'variant'

It looks like these were stamped prior to sonic welding & the outer ring is rotated compared to the center

A- head has 2 'pins' that can vary in height

pic of under the claw
3 - The TIG FOTW Thread: FX-7 Sdc12823

B- no pins, but ejector pin marks around the circumference
3 - The TIG FOTW Thread: FX-7 Sdc12821
claw ring ( the bit that rotates) doesn't fill the whole gap
3 - The TIG FOTW Thread: FX-7 Sdc12825

C- 3 'pins'
3 - The TIG FOTW Thread: FX-7 Sdc12822
under the claw is an extra 'brace' between the 2 'fingers' & a raised dot just a bit further up the arm
3 - The TIG FOTW Thread: FX-7 Sdc12824

There are other differences but that'll do me for now geek

Ok this has been driving me crazy for a while but I’ve finally plucked up the courage to mention it.

The mould family guide has 3 heads for FX-7 but not the one below. This one has an extra ridge on the tapered section which runs around the head. I’ve noticed the post above by AJ where he calls this figure #1 so is this a well known variant as I’ve not seen it documented anywhere? I have four examples 2 are COO II 1b and 2 are COO II 2a.

I’m sure I’m missing something obvious but my insanity is blinding me.

Roger, I am unsure. The person to ask would be AJ I think.

A Both my #1 is Mould family II (single line LFL 1980) has the head ridge, the corresponding no CoO that I have do not. I would 'assume' as there are mould pairs this would include heads. But I suspect it is only found with this mould family. So dot & no dot is the body 'pair' head pair is ridge or no ridge.

B #2 LFL & HK two lines together familyIII

C #3&#5 Made in Hong Kongs family I

Thanks for explaining that AJ. I guess I'm confused by mould pairs, it's one of those things for me where pictures may help.

I've checked my other mould family II FX-7's and they are a mix of ridge/no ridge, dot/no dot. Even the claws vary.

head ridge/no ridge, dot/no dot are the pairs. So the figure can be anyone of those 4 combinations. What are the claw differences within this mould family?

These are both full COO without dot, ridge on the left, no ridge on the right.

The no ridge version has a much more open claw and although it's not very obvious from my photos the base of the claw protrudes more on the no ridge version. I've checked the others I have and the base protrusion seems quite variable and is not specific to claw shape.

The black paint apps on the head and collar differ also but once again aren't specific to either ridge or no ridge version.
