PostSubject: A Little Modern Never Hurt Anyone   Mon Feb 22, 2010 4:28 pm

Since some of you know about my budding Jar Jar focus, I thought I'd take some time to show it off! And since I was down there snapping photos anyway, I thought I'd share some other things I've been working on as well. Wink

I know it's not vintage, so hopefully you'll excuse me. But it's some fun stuff that keeps me occupied when Rebel Commando stuff hits a lull.

First up is the piece that started this whole JarJar madness - Lifesize Frito Lay/Pepsi EP1 promotion Jar Jar:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

My mother-in-law found this for me at a garage sale. I wasn't 100% sure I wanted it, until I saw it in person. If you've never seen one of these things close up, they are incredible. The detail is second to none and the whole thing is hand painted. The clothing is real leather/suede and the eyes are hand painted glass eyeballs. The price was right, so I couldn't refuse! Smile

Next is a group shot of my Jar Jar pre-production stuff (the carded Senate JarJar in the back is just a production figure):

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Back Row (L to R): First Shot POTJ Mos Espa Jar Jar, AOTC Senate Jar Jar, EP1 Swimming Jar Jar, EP1 Cinema Scene Jar Jar.
Front Row: EP1 commtech Jar Jar hardcopy.

Here's a close up of the hard copy. It's all pinned and it can be completely unassembled. Smile

Next up is my other modern display case:

First Shelf:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

These are mold purges for the AOTC Sneak Preview R3-T7 figure. As you can see the body, head and legs are all still on the sprues and have all the flashing still attached. The carded in the back is just a production carded figure. I'm still looking for some other pre-production for this figure, but it's definitely far on the back burner. Wink

Lastly the second and third shelf. This is another little run I've been working on for quite awhile, TAC Yavin Luke.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Back Row (L to R): Carded Mock-Up with Hand Painted medal, Carded Engineering Sample with prototype McQuarrie "Concept" Stormtrooper coin and the figure itself has many paint variations which more closely resemble the photo sample on the card back.

Front Row (L to R): Test Shot figure with unpainted details above the breast pocket, and pants. It also includes an unpainted test shot lightsaber hilt and hand painted medal. Second figure is a production figure for comparison

Third Shelf:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

These are all production figures. Canadian Ultimate Galactic Hunt, US Carded Figure, Canadian Carded Figure. The coin in the middle is the Toy Fair coin from a couple of years ago.

I hope you all enjoy this as much as I do. Sometimes it's kind of fun to stray over to the modern side of things. Very Happy

Banned! Twisted Evil lol!

Nice run of Jar Jar stuff. I've seen those Frito Lay displays for sale quite a bit. I believe they go on average for about $100-$150, but every now and then I'll see someone trying to get $500+ out of one. I always want to email them say It's Jar Jar! Do you really think people are going to pay that!

I've only heard of one other Jar Jar collector, so I doubt you have too much competition in that area.

I also like the Toy Fair Coin. I seem to remember those going for quite a bit before the mailaway sets arrived.

If you look close Chris, you'll notice some other Jar Jar goodies on the end table in front of the lifesize Jar Jar. Wink I just haven't worked out how to display them yet. Very Happy

The funniest thing about that lifesize Jar Jar is the legs are made out of sytrofoam (sp?). And that's basically all that holds him up. The base on the bottom is plastic over a metal stand, but that's really about it. In all actuality, they are quite fragile and I'm shocked that many have survived.

Thanks Shawn! Smile

I've actually seen in the latest Brians Toys catalog the Jar Jar selling for $1200. Which I know it's BT, but that's insane!

The Toy Fair coin I picked up the weekend of Toy Fair on the bay. I figured it would look cool with the Lukes. Very Happy

I have to say , when you first told me last year you were thinking about Jar Jar as a side focus my reaction was far from good lol BUT that is a great run, any pre production figures are great but to see such a nice run of them in one collection is a real treat. I guess we can now call you JarJarChris instead haha

Nice work man, I know you had fun working on this and that is a nice display!

Maybe I need to start flipping them if BTs is selling them for that high. LOL I've just seen them a few times on the local craigslist site and one other classifieds site. I don't think the wife would be too happy with an 7 ft tall Gungan in the living room for a bit though.

Really cool run Chris!!

Who made that life size Jar Jar i.e which company and were they ever on retail if so when?

BTW Bro the pictures show really small on the thread for me sort of thumb nail size and i have to click them to go to another site to see the picture properly. Now you may call me a lazy twat lol but is it possible for you to upload them to your TIG Album so the full size pictures can be displayed on the thread itself?

Cheers Jay
