PostSubject: Thoughts on this TriLogo Cardback   Thu May 22, 2014 4:49 pm

Hey guys,

I picked up this TriLogo and it has a bunch of odd things going on that I would love to hear some thoughts on.
I plan on posting this over on trilogo.info as well to see if Joe and the TL guys have any thoughts as well, but this is my home so I start here. Smile

OK pictures......

OK, first point... there appears to be no trace of a bubble what so ever. Nothing.
If you look at the rear, there is no pressure marks where the bubble would have been applied. All my other TriLogos and MOCs have that (except that Toy Toni one).

Closeups and comparisons of two other LB TL backs....

Next slightly odd thing is the orange color is a more pure orange and not red/orange like all my other backs and MOCs.
I know fading is a possibility but it is too uniform and I would expect the entire card to be faded eually (blacks and the Leia pic) but they seem fine and not faded.
Just an odd printed example?

Then there is this very weird embossed address on the front. It is a stamp that depressed an address in the card. It was done twice, once with little pressure and again with more. It is in reverse on the front but sticks out better.
The address is:
40 Rosslyn Road
Whitwick
Leicestershire
(thanks to Detail King Alex's eyes for that! He had this in his hand on its way from the UK to me) Smile
Is that a stone throw away from the old Palitoy factory? It is a residential area now adays when viewed on Google Maps.

Normal picture of the impression:

Reversed in photoshop to see it normally:

Were stamps with your home address that made an impression something common in the UK at some point?

Final note... it appears to be a GM back based on the thin punch and the copyright under the racetrack being white text on black, however, the 'V" mark that is another tell at the middle of the bottom part of the punch isn't there. It is straight. Odd as well. My carded Trilogo GM card has the V as shown on Trilogo.info

So all these little things make it stand out even though it has seen better days.

Could this be an unused back that a worker took home to his kids (living close to the factory?)

I don't know... just strikes me as something different.

So whatcha think?
Standard, run of the mill back that just has some neat things going on?

Thanks in advance.

cheers!
Very Happy

We have already discussed this Jay.

The stamp interests me, I have seen ink stamps before on my friend Geoffs childhood cardbacks (all U.K. bought), I posted these in a thread a while ago but there was no response. I've not seen a embossed style stamp before though.
The ones on Geoffs appear to be company stamps, most likely shops or wholesale suppliers.

Ink stamp across the ESB logo, really can't see what it says though  No

Stamp on the reverse of card:

This is an ink sta,p on the Bi-Logo CAP-2 I bought recently:

Having seen it in hand my self and under close scrutiny, apart from some superfitial dirt, there really is no sign of a bubble ever been there at all.

I'd like to here what Joe and the Tri-Logo guys think of this  Very Happy

If it is an unused cardback, then this has to be the wild find of the year so far, especially for the bank busting £3 you paid for it  cheers

Check this out.... the same seller had sold another Palitoy cardback with a pristine bubble area like this (had to tell about the pressure mark though but not obvious) and the kid's name "Andrew" - same source.  thinking

Very odd indeed, I've seen some cardbacks with next to no bubble marks, but none anywhere near as clean as these?

Pic's for the sake of the thread:

Interesting stuff guys.
For 'Andrew' to have had two apparently unused cardbacks suggests a possibility that they were supplied by someone working at the Palitoy factory.
Wouldn't it  be great if Andrew could be traced to conform this (very unlikely I know).

The one thing that I noticed, but I'm not sure if your two outside MOC's are a different back or you are using them for the colour difference? But the copyright is on the white figure boarder on the MOC's and it's under the white figure boarder on the middle three. Plus the white figure boarder is higher up from the bottom of the card to allow for the copyright.

I contacted the seller who resides in Leicester I beleive to see if he has a connection to their past or may know a bit from where and how he acquired them. We'll see.
But after seeing that second card from him, makes me wonder! And add to all this the location compared to Palitoy... hrrrmmmm
Could be sheer coincidence of course.

Yeah, that copyright position and black on white / white on black is a tell to help see what type of back it is in addition to the punch style... 70B, 70C, GM, etc.
I used the photo to show the color and how that dark red/orange is the norm across all variations except this one. But I know color and density can change from batch to batch, but it is just another oddity to this piece. Smile

cheers!

GM/Parker - sorry I interchange those.
It has one of the two identifiers.... the copyright is outside the racetrack with white text on black background, but the punch doesn't have the distinctive 'V' cut.
I have a GM/Parker MOC that shows both and I have this back that just has the copyright matching.
I want to say its GM/Parker based on the copyright, but the punch isn't exactly the same.

............ so........ not sure. Smile unsure

cheers!

I've done a bit of looking at my Trilogo cardbacks recently ( including finding what I think is a Leia Bespin card not on Joe's matrix ( perforated punch )
The orange vs red bubble area reminds me of the two 'versions' of the German 45 back Snowtrooper.  Gotta go to work, I think Mirco had both versions.

edit: the other easy way to tell a Palitoy type 2 vs 'GM/Parker'. Type 2 is thin cardstock & 'white'. 'GM/Parker' is thicker & brown cardstock.

edit2: I did remember correctly about the orange & red German snowtroopers BUT damn webshots pics are gone  Mad   Sad

Thanks AJ! I'll be hunting TriLogo Leia images for days now!  study  Smile

To the point of the card stock, it is thicker and not flimsy like the 70C/Type 2s I have.

And I too have a Type 1/70B used backer! I didn't notice it wasn't on the matrix!

-------------------

OK, so a quick reply from Joe over at trilogo.info has me smiling and so far at least, he thinks it might be an unused card back. cheers
I'm not setting that in stone yet since he asked for more pics of the punch, but I am still happy it wasn't immediately dismissed so that is pretty cool.
Things are looking on the positive side.

My topic over at trilogo.info.

I also asked the ebay seller some questions and he responded.  Cool
It wasn't his or in the family originally, but came to him in a lot of Star Wars stuff he picked up from someone in Leicester (where he lives too). The seller, oddly enough, is Alan Bunkum (Author of Toy Robots from Japan). Just neat that he is a collector of stuff and knows about research so he was happy to give me the details of where he got it but didn't know anything more than from where.  Sad
Still very cool of him to respond with some detail! A+++

Anyway... just wanted to share some updates. Smile

cheers and thanks everyone!

cheers  All looking very promising o far Jay, I was hoping Joe would chime in.... Do you think who ever own's that error sheet will cut me a Luke Bespin off  :cool laugh:

Definately looking like a steller wild find then! Especially since you got it for less than the price of a loose Leia..... Oh wait, you also got a loose Leia with it!!!!!!  Very Happy

It's great that the seller was so helpful also. Do you think it would be worth seeing if you could get in touch with who ever bought the Stormtrooper card, or ask the seller if he would give the Stormtrooper buyer you contact details.

I'm just thinking that the chances are that the buyer probably has no idea what he may potentially have and it seems a shame for such a piece to potentially become 'lost' especially given the condition, the 3 Stormtroopers it came with where probably it's biggest selling point.

At least then the buyer would be in a position to potentially re-house it with someone who could give it a perfect home? I appreciate that a premium would probably be demanded at that point, but I can't help but think that it could get lost.

One more follow up to this.

panastur has chimed in over at trilogo.info and he too agrees that the trilogo is an unused one!  cheers

So at this point I am very happy and will indeed consider it an unused one. Smile
Got it sitting up by my 31B and Revenge proofs. Not quite as pretty but kinda rounds out the look of having the three alternate art backs altogether.

Anyway..............

cheers!
