PostSubject: Dr Who Help   Thu Aug 06, 2015 5:23 pm

Ok, I have never seen any doctor who shows at all. Now being that a lot of guys here grew up with the show I am wanting to start to watch them to see what it is all about. So here is the conundrum. I went to Amazon to see Dr Who dvds for sale. Now they have a ton of Dr Who dvds in all sorts of stuff and some say season 1 or series 1 and then some appear to be movies? I don't really understand the way the series or seasons are set up, because some say the first series, but then others say season 1 so is that not the first series? Also these stand alone ones are they part of the series or separate series or are they movies or what?

I just need someone to tell me what to buy to be able to watch them in some sort of order so I can follow the story and which series or whatever. I see one listed right now that says the matt smith years so I assume by the looks this is an older one, but is it series 1 which the picture for it looks like a different person? Also see one labeled season 1 classic? Can someone help me and tell me which ones I should look for. Which season or series is better to start with as someone who hasn't seen a single episode and knows nothing of the characters or storylines?

Poor Bryan dalek  You've only got 50 years of episodes to catch up with  Razz

I'd reccommend starting with reading up on wikipedia to give you a general series overview: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Doctor_Who_serials

Or the website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006q2x0/episodes/guide

Then maybe start with the Christopher Ecclestone 9th Doctor revamped-era series one which began in 2005. Follow this with the following series 2, 3, 4 (David Tennant 10th), 5, 6, 7 (Matt Smith 11th) and 8 (Peter Capaldi - current Doctor).

The old series before these can be a bit shaky and is sometimes off-putting for newbies but there are some amazing and classic episodes (and Doctors) from old school Who.

Good luck. Alongside SW Doctor Who is my fave  cheers

Bryan, If you have Netflix, they quite often have a few seasons up and running.

Yes best to start with the new ones then you can watch the old one but only the Tom Baker ones the others are crap as Tom Baker wasn't in them lol yes I grew up watching Dr Who with Tom Baker.

It is a great show but it can get confusing at times, I think it's that British humor thing Wink. even though I grew up in Canada we had lots of British shows here, If you want to check out some other British greats might I suggest the following. Faulty Towers, Red Dwarf, Blackadder, Are You Being Served. This is just a few, there are way more.

Here is one that I am sure you will enjoy by a British comedian named Doc Brown called Angry Tea Rap With Lyrics for those British language impaired lol.  WARNING BAD LANGUAGE CONTENT.

Oh you're in for a treat! Love Dr. Who!!

I agree with everyone who says start with the reboot (2005). I also was a Tom Baker / Peter Davison / Colin Baker guy and it's a little touch and go. When I see the TARDIS appear as a pipe organ in a rerun I cry I little.

It's an amazing show, you're going to love it

I had full intention to order a DVD season and get started on this, and then my son decided to start his little league football season. Now it seems I haven't had time to take a proper sh.....well time has been constricted. A lot of times when I am logged in it is from either work or my cell phone since his practices and games and fundraisers and etc have all kicked off.

I will be looking to get these though as I do want to see the draw. From the following and what little I have read so far it seems a really cool story line. Also now has some really cool figures.
