PostSubject: ledy weapons with kenner figures??   Thu Mar 17, 2016 8:39 am

First thanks to hellhippie for his help recently Very Happy

So this question is about 2 leia's i have bespin and organa, they were both bought in england in my childhood and stored together with there weapons they came with from card, so i guess my question is how come they have lili ledy blasters(v4)? i understand the MIM and ledy story but cant find anything on why my figs have mexican blasters? any help would be great

Thanks peeps Lobotic out....

The weapons guide on the main site is an ever evolving guide as we make newer discoveries and documentation of them. I know it says that the poorer sculpt leia blaster is a ledy variant, however it is not ledy exclusive. I believe the gray is a ledy exclusive as the color of plastic used was not used elsewhere, but the mold for the ledy blaster was used also by kenner so the weapon mold is not exclusive. AJ and Paul are better with weapons than I am though so would like to know what they have to say.

Again hello Trappedtexan, you must hate me by now lol, right so the grey blaster is unique to ledy got that thank you. And i can see what you are saying about the molds being shared by kenner or passed onto ledy by kenner later on in the production process, it makes total sense now! and is quite obvious really Embarassed so the blue blasters are really only ever exclusive/unique to ledy if carded with the original ledy figure i guess. So in short my Leia has a ledy blaster that is only so because of the mold used was originally a kenner (even though she was carded and sold in the uk) and then that mold was used in mexico? sorry about the essay Bryan

Thanks mark

Not at all. We all had to start somewhere and learn this stuff from someone. Every single person regardless of how much knowledge they have on any particular subject started with no knowledge of it. By asking questions you evolve the knowledge you have and gain new bits thus becoming more knowledgeable.

In short to say your leia has a ledy blaster is not correct. She has a blaster that kenner made which ledy also used the same mold to make. The blaster she possesses was not likely made by ledy as they did not export only weapons for carding (to my knowledge). This is one of those weapons that once removed from the card is not able to be told from a kenner or ledy, but knowing yours was found in the UK means we know this one was not made in mexico as ledy did not export weapons (that we know of). The only figures that I think ledy may have exported are some of the so called pbp figures which match ledy figures down to the material even. The PBP yoda and ledy yoda for example are identical as are the pbp c3po and ledy c3po, there are others also.

Hey Bryan, well its good to know that i am not annoying anybody, everyone seems very patient and i love all of the extra knowledge so thankyou Very Happy

Thanks for the last reply i really do understand now, LL weapons are literally MIM only, and i have the kenner versions because they were bought in the uk easy. I guess i should be deflated not at all, my first childhood collection will always be my one true love lol, you have helped a great deal, as you can tell i am still a freshman, i was reading the poche/PBP thread earlier and noticed the different classes and rules that has also been a great help and opened my eyes. You mention the that LL may have exported some PBP figs that are identical but surely they must have some of the PBP/poche traits? paint, melt marks, scarred coos etc there must be something to tell them apart surely?

Please tell me i am researching properly and this is a PBP class III Dengar unsure i got him 2 weeks ago

Ps he is obviously not from my original collection they only span ANH-ESB and a couple of the first ROTJ

Thanks Mark

Hi Lobotic, thanks for posting the pics and feel free to ask any questions here - usually someone will try and help where they can. I agree with what Bryan @trappedtexan says that the Leia blaster in question is not necessarily a Ledy exclusive whereas the grey version is. We will aim to update the description on the guide to reflect this once the team has all had chance to look.

Hi Mark, that is a pure PBP figure commonly found in the UK as they were imported by palitoy. You'll find loads of these.

Other common one's are the PBP Chewbacca with a scarred coo and circle under his foot and the PBP hard torso snowtrooper which people still call the "YPS" variant. Oh and the scarred coo lando, he can be found all over the UK!!

Sorry I was off for a bit and didn't see the question. For sure a PBP figure. Honestly the spansih stuff I am not as up on, but I know some. There are still theories to these figures that are unproven. A well known Spanish guy was writing a book about these figures but it got delayed and I have no idea of an update on it. For sure will be buying that when he releases it.

Hi artoo, please dont think I was causing trouble, I only posted this to understand for myself why LL weapons sometimes came with kenner figs.I use the guide like a bible so to think i might have a valid question and the fact that the description in the TIG guide could be updated bow I feel honoured cant wait to see what the team think!
I will definitely keep posting my questions and pics!
Thanks artoo for another warm welcome, this place is awsome Stormie Smiley

Bryan you have given me lots of you time today so please dont say sorry, thankyou. glad i am getting some thing right though lol. To be honest i have not bought a single book yet, i have survived the past year by typing in a figures name in google- then scrolling down pictures to wolfs guide and living off that for confirmation. I found the TIG weapon guide shortly after and that was it, until a couple of weeks ago when i grew a set and joined this forum and now its like a new world has opened up!! the coo families, understanding ledy, learning about poche/PBP its brilliant!! please keep me updated on the book as an atlas for PBPs sounds amazing Smile

Thanks hellhippie, pretty much answered all my questions and feeling a bit more confident now about asking, everyone has been so inviting. Loving the guides i have read so many already, something last week that aussie james wrote to somebody has stuck in my mind "dont collect to fast, take your time and enjoy the ride" it really is a ride and i think i know what he means now i have seen the light!!!

Mark, notice Bill mentioned the smell of dengar there. This is the smell I was talking about in another thread with you. It is a sweet smell and I already shared one theory behind it. Every PBP figure I have come across has this smell (some stronger than others). Having it is not automatically put the figure into a pbp category, but it is a cool bonus to them. Very Happy

Between these two threads, you guys are seriously tempting me to break out the figures just to give them a wiff. :cool laugh:

Youve got me thinking again now, so what info is there about the "smell" and I am thinking do we know these are the same smells, they sound the same but just say for instance that there are 2 "smells" one unique for pbps (eg plastic variation) and a different smell for the more common figs (eg the strawberry shortcake theory)? Is this a possibility?? I cant believe this is making me want to smell my figs again, just when I thought it was safe to put them back!!

If you think smelling them is odd wait till you get to the bootleg model trem line and start tasting them to see if they are lead. rofl

Sorry that was more an inside joke. The "sweet" pbp smell is only found on pbp figures that I know of. Again it isn't a definitive trait to make a figure that smells this way pbp, just an added bonus to them. The pbp figures that are the same as Ledy are indistinguishable as far as I know. The melt marks and poor characteristics are poch traits not pbp traits. The theory on poch is that they imported leftovers to assemble and paint. poch figures do have unique paint. Don't get to hung up on the defects. A melt mark or bad welding can happen with Kenner or any other manufacturer and is not poch specific.

Hey Bryan, just home from work. I have browsed over bootlegs but really wouldnt know where to start with those think i would have to buy from a private collector? you dont lick lead surely- if you have been i think you need to pay visit to lograys office lol. Thanks for the extra sweet scent info i didnt know and you are so right what an added bonus!!i have read the poche and PBP class rules and it is exactly like you say (the pbps are more no coo/scarred?) and i also didnt realise that kenners could have melt marks so thanks for that.I was going to post a few more figs i am having difficulties with just to get some conclusive decisions but there not that special really only to me and its just for my sanity i guess, do you think it is worth it? I did have 1 brain storm i have a carded tsukami logray that i am dying to open and i was thinking of describing the opening for others (eg how the bubble pulls away from the card, the glue texture etc) i was thinking it might help others to understand the difference compared to reproduced mocs, let me know if you think its a waste of time or has somebody already done this oh and is there a certain way to open? if your not asleep yet i also want to post my collection in the limelight section but feel it might be a bit inadequate as novice does this matter? below is a quick pic of my tickets im a virgin and gonna be my first time soooo excited :buzzing:

ps alot of questions i know sorry about that, but hey if you dont ask!!

Thanks Bryan...

Hey Bryan, just home from work. I have browsed over bootlegs but really wouldnt know where to start with those think i would have to buy from a private collector? Start right here in our outer realm section.  Read on them, look at them, then post a wtb in the classifieds and maybe some one can help a bit.  you dont lick lead surely- if you have been i think you need to pay visit to lograys office lol. If you have questions, I am sure we can try to find answers.  Part of why the boards exist is to ask and learn, the other part is to make friends. Going to nip this in the bud quickly.  DO NOT OPEN.  Truthfully it is your item and if you want to do it you are free to, but you wont make many friends around here and will end up quickly being put into a category you don't want to be in.  There are only so many vintage items left sealed and every time one is opened it is one less item in the world that was the way it was.  There are more than enough good loose figures out there already that there is no need to open any more.  This is a destructive process and is part of why a lot of the boards and some facebook groups took part in the anti U-grade campaign.  We don't condone opening items.  The logray your talking about is a tsukuda right? (I have not heard of a tsukami) well these were kenner figures that were imported to japan and a sticker was placed on them.  The figure inside is the same as most other kenner lograys so nothing special will be gained by removing him from his card.  Again you own it, but it is not a good thing to destroy the moc for no particular good reason.   if your not asleep yet i also want to post my collection in the limelight section but feel it might be a bit inadequate as novice does this matter? Post it up. It doesn't matter how large or small the collection (even modern stuff is ok) below is a quick pic of my tickets im a virgin and gonna be my first time soooo excited :buzzing:

ps alot of questions i know sorry about that, but hey if you dont ask!!

Thanks Bryan...

If only one thing in the response above sticks let it be the DO NOT OPEN sealed items.

Here is a good article about u-grades. http://powerofthetoys.com/afa/

Opening for the sake of opening is no different except the item isn't graded. It is a destructive process and serves little to no purpose.

Hi Bryan, no worries i totally understand, i didnt realise how important it was to keep these guys carded but i get it now, the card is a bit shabby thats all Embarassed bit naive like that sometimes and i really did think it would help others, again i appologise didnt mean to offend anyone and he will stay in his bubble forever as well as my other mocs promise Smile tsukuda yes my japanese is a bit rusty lol. Thanks for the advice about booties i am going to take a look. Also i had a look at the degradation thread that artoo recommended and i have found one in my collection that is not posted in that thread yet, its a good one (i think?). please let me know what you think Smile it will be on there in a bit- bespin guard black.

Thanks again for your worldly advice Bryan.
PS i really am sorry about the moc idea i really had no idea, just a dumb fan Sad

PLEASE do not open a Tsukuda or any sealed item for 'research' it's all been done before. Dozens of ways to spot a reproduction and opening a vintage item is not on he list ... Logray usually has a 'special' bubble with a extra bit for his staff. Any other questions jut ask Smile
