Great pics again, especially the Red Arrows at the end cheers Love all the attention to detail with the period uniforms.

The red arrows are the group with the colored smoke?

Great pics again, and awesome model kit. Lots of women who appear to be pilots. Really cool to see these old planes. Are these like museum owned pieces or do they all belong to individuals or what?

Thanks guys Very Happy

Hi T.T.,
yep, the Red Arrows are the R.A.F.'s (world famous) air display team. Each pilot's a fully qualified flight instructor with many years of front line service under their belts.

It's a mixture really.. many of the historic war-birds belong to the museums own fighter collection and can be seen in the hangers most of the year while others (like the racers & airliners) are privately owned & are visitors for the event. The B-17 (Sally B) is owned by a charitable trust & is based at Duxford.

The re-enactors are volunteers who stand guard during the flightline, they're there to prevent people getting too close to the planes. The museum authorities take safety incredibly seriously, live aircraft are dangerous, & they don't want anyone getting hurt.

Unfortunately, during the closing event of the show "Miss Velma" experienced an engine failure making an emergency landing in a nearby cornfield:

The pilot handled the situation perfectly, thankfully he walked away unharmed.

I just love these old birds, I got the pleasure years ago at an airshow here to see a pair of mustangs and a Land do a fly pass just love the sound and the Mustang is by far my top plane from WW2.

Thanks for sharing I also loved your other post with the older planes and stuff very cool.

I recently picked up a vintage 84 Airfix catalogue with a nice page devoted to the Red Arrows,

Hi folks,
One of the main attractions at last Saturday's East Kirkby airshow was this superb OV-10 Bronco:

An ex West German Luftwaffe aircraft, which still wears it's service markings (including hi-vis orange training unit markings) this visitor to the U.K. made the trip to the U.K. from it's home in Belgium.

The plane's also been decorated with special markings marking centenary commemorations for WWI..

The pilot performed an amazing routine which showed off the aircraft's superb agility & short field landing/ take-off performance:

This was the first time I'd seen a Bronco "in the flesh" & must say I'm most impressed.. hard to believe that this aeroplane dates from the 1960's! The U.S.A.F. retired their fleet just before second Gulf War, but they've recently brought some back to support U.S. special forces fighting in Iraq.

A few of the other aircraft on display @ Kirkby..

Of coarse the real star of the show remains "Just Jane", looking resplendent in her fresh coat of paint ;-)

Cheers
