well you know about my recent dilema i received 12 figures back from AFA.my lili ledy gamorrean guard came back with a kenner axe .i have my before pic i took before i sent to afa and the cased figure now cased from afa. you can clearly see someone at afa stole my ledy gammy axe.mfkr's.also i have several other cased figures i believe that were not labeled right.and realy low balled on the grade's.have a look at these cased figure's are they labeled right from afa.also what is your opinion on ecah figure. what do you think they should be labeled as.check my afa submission list do i have them labeled correctly.please check each figure and check my afa list.let me know if these are labled right or if you think there something else.javi i need your help here big time.i realy need your advice on each figure.

they labeled this figure as kenner.i know this is mis labeled.is it PBP?what is it realy.

this dengar i beleive it is PBP why.because it has a deep scar, dark armour, and pale face they labeled it trilogo variant.is afa right on this or could it be PBP and they should relabel it?

afa labeled this as kenner.i thought this was a PBP why because it has the dark brown chest,no coo, pale face am i right or what is it?

afa labeled this as trilogo pale face.i sent it in as PBP variant.reason why it has a deep scar coo, pale face. my trilogo's of this figure don't don't have the deep scar. is this right?

ok my problem with this figure is why was it graded so fn low 80??this figure is flawless do you think they gave me a low score because they think the helmet is damaged because it has no paint on it?i thought that is how this tiawan variant came?afa idiot's probably don't know this variant so they thought my helmet is damaged but realy this is how it came.what are you guy's thought's about this figur's grade look how fkn cherry it is. OMG!!

Dan im not a fan of the AFA for multiple reasons but you really are putting the wrong information on the submissions labels bud.

E.G You label the Dark Armour Dengar as a "PBP Variant".

This particular figure can be found on both PBP and Trilogo Cards and is know as the Dengar Dark Armour PBP / Tri Logo Variant for starters.

To also add The Dark Brown Rebel Soldier Pale face is also not a "PBP Variant" as you labeled it as it can like the dengar above be found on Tri Logo Cards.

As these are loose submissions they have no evidence as to what card the figure came from so unless is a major variant like the small head Han then the AFA wont add that type of info to the label just because the customer put it on!

Now if the figure was sent on a PBP MOC for U grading they probably would!

You have to remember that the AFA doesn't understand the deeper world of figure variants buddy i remember only last year getting into a heated debate with Tom Derby (AFA Owner) about him wanting to use the variant collectors data thats been compiled from years of research and use it to allow them to add better / accurate labels for figure variants. The last thing variant collectors wanted was the AFA to drive up the prices in this area as well!

The main thing about variant collecting is the vast majority of people (i wont put a huge list of usernames in here) don't buy or submit to the AFA as the 2 things don't marry up very well at all.

The other factor you need to consider is a lot of the work in the field is still on going (look at the TIG PBP Thread) where certain things have only recently been confirmed on way or the other.

The only time the the AFA comes into play with variant collecting is for authentication via CIB for items such as LL Jawa removable Hood, VC Jawa etc

MAYBE if the variation collectors that DO use AFAs services hadn't argued with Tom, and had been willing to share information, things'd be labeled correctly. As for them swapping your axe out, there's no excuse for that happening at all.

It's obvious that AFA's going to try to grade variants regardless, and without the right information people are going to have gripes like this. Of course it kinda puts a big question mark over the last "A" in AFA.....

Cheers
Joe

Who does that ultimately benefit though?

The AFA mainly IMO (and to a degree people like Dan who are wanting to pay money for graded variants)

The vast majority of variant collectors who are complying research aren't into AFA at all so there would be zero benefit to them.

In fact it would probably make it harder for them to find loose variants ungraded and at ungraded prices in the future so i can fully understand them not wanting to share there work with the AFA.

Labeled correctly or not.... those are some sweet figs!!!!

Unless you plan on selling them in the future.... does it really matter what AFA listed them as?

I really don't understand why people bother for loose figures at all. The only time i could understand it if it was for verification for a rare figure (maybe with a Tom Derby cert). Even then i wouldn't necessarily trust the verification 100%, but i know i could sell it at least. Wink

Just replied in your other thread Dan but i will chime in again here.

The leia boushh would be marked down because of the helmet mate. Its unpainted so they class it as a flaw......sucks i know.

As for the others, well i can't blame AFA for not putting PBP on the labels.
I used to be big into my variations about 2001 and collected them for a few years. Back then those figures you have were called tri variants by everyone, PBP never got a mention.
In fact its only more recently that i have started to see PBP mentioned.

AFA are not collectors, its a business and i don't think any of the actual graders are even allowed to collect SW.
Tom D is not going to inspect every single item himself to work out if something has an odd coo, and they just can't go putting whatever a customer wants on the labels in case they are wrong.

Im not suprised that AFA don't know their arse from their elbow in the variant world, its a mine field. I've been out of it for a around 6-7 years now and other than the obvious ones like Tri hoth soldier im completely lost.

I can understand your frustration tho bud, they are supposed to be the ultimate authority in action figures lol.

I can see why Tom wanted info about variants, but i completely agree that this would send variation prices even more thru the roof and in the long run would be a bad idea for 99% of variation collectors.

Hey Dan, as someone pointed out on rebelscum, the figure itself doesn't match up either. Your before pic has wear to his horns that the graded one doesn't. Did you submit the right figure or did they mix up your submission for someone else's altogether???????

Confusing but entertaining popcorn

yeah i spend thousand's of dollar's every month on vintage sw stuff .it put's me at a higher risk to get bad stuff compared to a guy that only buy's 1 figure every two month's.i buy in mass quantities so my probability rate is much higher to run in into trouble.i deal with a lot of people i wish they made internet condom's for heavy purchasers like my self. lol! lol! lol! lol! cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers cheers Dan.
