Hi,

Just a quick Q for the experts. I have a strange IG-88 figure. It's the 'no-wire', rubbery-limbed variant, but compared to other figures I have of the same variant, his right arm is shorter and his left arm is totally different. The claw is much shorter, the detailing on the back of the forearm, much less defined.

Is this something somebody did? Do you think someone melted the limbs or something? They just look strangely symmetrical and deliberate for something like that.

Any thoughts?

That arm is pretty crazy looking. What exactly is the "no wire" variant? Haven't heard of that.

Yeah, it's weird isn't it? Very Happy

The 'no-wire' variant is probably completely the wrong name, I just saw it referred to as that on the web once and it kind of stuck as an easy way of identifying the figure.

Basically, one version has a small wire running down it's right leg that the other one doesn't have.

wow. I can't believe I never heard of that one. I've got 1 with wire and 3 without. Crazy. But, none with crazy arm like yours.

Honestly i have'nt seen one like that.

I think it might be tweaked from kid's play.

Take a look at the eyes of your IG-88s. You'll see that the "no wire" IG has normal eyes while the "wire" IG has hollow eyes.

The different eyes usually name the variant.

As for the right arm - it looks like a factory error to me. If a kid would have done this there should be some black areas (from "melting" the hand with a flame).

I have heard of an eyes variant, but didn't know it correlated with the wire/no wire. Very interesting. I also knew I had 2 different colored/shine variations. 1 glossy/metallic and others dull silver color.

I remember when I didn't know Han Hoth could hold his blaster in his holster and FX-7's arm rotated. Weird that common figures have features I was oblivious to even as a kid.

Hi Dan,

Yeah that was my first thought, but I just can't understand what they could have done? Like Uli says, there are no burn marks, blisters, uneven bumps or even missing paint.

The torso, legs and head are exactly as they should be, (no signs of being anywhere near heat) but both arms are too short.

The thing that's strange about the left arm is that, if it was melted, it's totally symetrical, both pincers are the same size, the detailing on the back while smooth and underdefined is completely symetrical and there is no paint loss or even paint discolouration in the area.

I'm not ruling out any possibilities, I'm just mystified as to how someone might have done this... Shocked Laughing

My best guess as to why this IG-88 has a weird arm is because the figure was "short shot".

Sometimes in the production process the plastic didn't reach fully into the figure mold, resulting in some figures limbs etc. being a little shorter. I know there's a better explanation out there somewhere, and if I find it, I'll put a link in this thread. Smile

Hi Uli,

That's interesting...I knew about the eyes and some of the other differences between the two, just didn't know what to call them. So people usually just say 'hollow-eyed' variant and 'normal-eyed' variant?

That's also interesting about the factory error theory - anyone got any examples of figures with factory defects? Would be cool to see.

My favorite word.Manufacture defect.

Discobob have you seen my Ledy 8d8.My droid has a manufacture defect as well.

It has holes on both sides of it's leg's.
