Hi guys
Whats everyones opinion on whether a sale price sticker makes a huge amount of difference to a MOC.......does it depend on where it is on the card, what it is?
I have seen a number of really nice cards but somehow I cant seem to get excited when I see the 'toy'r us' price tag on it ....is it me being too fussy or is this something others think the same about ?
Thanks
Tony

Its nice to find one w/o a sticker, but ones that do have the history of what they actually sold for and where. I think it was Scards who started a thread on RS about price stickers from an old store thats closed down now that was cool. It all brings back those memories of days going to the local store and looking at these things as brand new and picking them up.

One of my mini rigs boxes has a Spar supermarket sticker on it - I don't mind as it brings back memories plus it's only a little sticker on the side. I forget sometimes about the different retailers back in the late 70s and early 80s and it's a buzz seeing those old outlets like on Uli's poster he showed recently with the John Menzies logo on it. Also have a box with a Woolworths sticker on it too Sad
bring back Woolies lol!

I don't go out of my way to avoid them. However, I think if I HAD the choice, I would probably go for one without the sticker.

Like others have said, it's kind of fun to see them from time to time. Although the Toys R Us stickers are annoying.

Has anyone ever tried using a heat gun to remove sticker's,not a hair dryer but an actuall heat gun.

I know dealership's use them to remove sticker's off car's, they warm em up and the peel right off.

Maybe a low setting mild heat on low blowing cycle might work,i'd definitly try it on a beater card first.

Dan.

I agree with that Smile

The only time they put me off is if they are blocking the logo or cardback image.

I prefer card without price stickers, when i buy a nice looking MOC with a price sticker, i remove it. I think it looks much better without the sticker from some store i have never been to or heard off. but that's just my opinion.

Most prize stickers are fairly easy to remove with just patience and the right stuff (actually zippo fuel) Wink

I have one carded figure wich has an prize sticker i don't dare to remove, looked at it more then once, but this one doesn't look like it willing to come off, and then i rather have a MOC with full price sticker then a torn price sticker.

If you would like to try for yourself just try on some loose beater cardbacks first (i did not even do this myself, but i recommend it, as you'll get better at it when you practice first).

But i don't think the risk is Huge, since i removed about 7 or 8 price stickers from Moc's and never even damaged one cardback....

Patience is the trick.

I don't mind them, as long as they are put on neatly and do not cover up the logo or picture!

I wish it were that simple and easy. I've seen some damage done removing stickers. Depending on the state of the glue, it could really tear away the cardboard. My personal opinion is like going into a haunted house, "Proceed at your own risk". Make peace with the fact that you may damage it before starting.

Thanks guys for all the replies ...... personally I dont dislike all of them but would try to avoid them if possible especially if they are on the card back image or logo and as for Toys R us they seem to like putting on more than one Mad

That is a really good way to put it. I've removed a few myself and sometimes they come off perfectly clean and other times you do get some damage. I for the most part try to avoid price stickers if I can, but I do see the nostalgia in them as well. The other day I saw a Luke Jedi with a big orange TRU sticker on it and I think at some point I want to get one like that. TRU was my favorite store as a kid and a lot of my toys came from there.

John,

Your right, damage can be done easily to a cardback, and that's is way made a reference to a 12back Ben kenobi with a price sticker i will not try to remove as it is a tricky price tag to remove and i don't want it to get damaged.
But i said this as everybody always recommend not to do this as you will damage the cardback and that's not true, like i said i did a couple more myself and did not damage one (maybe next time i am not so lucky...)
But just wanted to to let those who haven't done it yet know, its possible. If you want to remove a price tag, give it a try for yourself (maybe on a loose cardback first) and see how it works out for you.

by the way: I think this is some great advice from you: Make peace with the fact that you may damage it before starting as it always can happen (or discover some damage on the cardback that someone else covered up by a price tag...)

Cheers, Dennis.

I am odd, but I like the price stickers, it is a part of the history. Of course, as others, I would love to have a 12 back Luke Farmboy that was pristine without a sticker. Really I don't need perfect items, an AFA 80 is good enough for me.

As for removing stickers, I put the people that remove the stickers and damage the MOC right up there with folks who say that they 'opened up a MISB to take a picture of the contents for the Ebay auction.' Shocked If the price sticker can be removed without damage, then cool, but I am not brave enough to try it myself. Neutral
