It's a toss-up as to which is my favorite. It's either the Hoth Rebel Commander or the Hoth Stormtrooper with the AT-AT in the back ground.

I've not been very present on this website, mostly because I lack the time to post regularly on message boards in the past few years. I've been collecting Star Wars toys for more than 18 years now, not including my childhood years, and I have both the modern and vintage line.

A few years back, I've been taking by storm by Instagram. At first, I took pictures or sky and trees, trying to create some effects, but soon found this to be quite boring, maybe because I've had my fair share of the cloudporn phenomenon.

Last year, I decided to stick to what I like most: Star Wars. So I opened a new Instagram account under my "SW" name: JediPatrick. And I've been taking pictures of my SW toys in various fashion ever since.

My latest pictures involves vintage ships and playset posed in the same fashion as the Kenner Vintage Star Wars box art. You will find this on Instagram under the hashtag "#jedipatrickvintagestarwars":

These pictures are taken with very crude setups, using light, large color cardboards, a basic Sony Powershot II camera and a lot of patience to reproduce the toys as closely to the Kenner boxart as possible. Oh, and mostly, a lot of fun!

Recreating these vintage setup is really thrilling and it made me realize how much care was put by the photographer to create the simple and pure aesthetics of the Kenner boxes back then. The lighting is perfect, shadows have been reduced as much as possible and each background color specifically selected to make sure the toys were made more attractive. In fact, I think this is why the Star Wars line was so popular back in my youth: the contrasting effect of the color + black packaging was simple and efficient to attract the consumers, especially when compared to the other brands of toys with confusing art and colors. I really dig for these retro packaging and certainly wish Hasbro would go back to the Vintage-style packaging like they did for the 2010-2012 line of figures.

Superb photos JediPatrick I love all the Hoth-themed ones - the Snowspeeder against the purple sky is my favourite. Also like the yellow / orange combos like Jabba, Slave 1 and Dagobah play-set.

I agree with what you said about the success of Kenner against some of the other brands. One of the great things about Kenner was their eye for composition and colour, from box dioramas right down to the choices of colours for the backgrounds behind the characters on MOC. And having the racetracks which featured throughout the majority of their lines helped frame all that coolness

Yes, the Snowspeeder box art is really nice (had to use a pink background and aim that flashlight light spot at the correct angle and location while holding the camera, LOL, not the easiest one to take), and I really liked preparing the setup for the Hoth themed pictures. Had to prepare my homemade snow for these shots, based on a mix of baking soda powder and conditioner shampoo. The mix gives a nice, cold snow-like powder, very similar to what they used back then, but I must admit it smells a lot (like any shampoo would LOL )

I'm planning to retake the MLC-3 shot, this time with snow, and once I get my hands on a second MTV-7 and PDT-8, to attack these ones as well. The Hoth-themed boxes are also my favorite ones, but living in Quebec where snow invades our lives for approx. 1/3rd of the year, liking winter sceneries is kinda natural I guess...
