Yak Face with a Blaster? Empty
PostSubject: Yak Face with a Blaster?   Yak Face with a Blaster? I_icon_minitimeMon May 02, 2011 8:06 am

Last year I stumbled across a loose AFA graded Yak Face which came with the black palace blaster same as Luke Poncho and Lando General. Thing is it was U graded, which of course means it was ( wrongfully ) taken from a card. Naturally I investigated further using the greatest investigative means possible ( Google ) and turned up a carded AFA example that had sold at Brianstoys. Link below :

http://www.brianstoys.com/store/ProductInfo.aspx?productid=SV3CTYAKFACEC9%2B*AFA14203494

Just wondered if anyone could shed any light on this, was it an actual weapon variation, or just a couple of weapons wrongly packed?

Any thoughts?

If I remember correctly, the Trilogo cards had a few weapon variations. Palace Blaster, Skiff Axe, Skiff Pike and of course no weapon at all.

Was it only Yak Face that had different weapons or was there also other figures on the Tri-Logo cards ?

Yak face primarily was packaged in Europe without a weapon but in Spain he was packaged with wrong weapons-(as John mentioned, the palace blaster and the Gaffi stick)

There are two types of Yak trilogos that came with weapons, the oversized PBP/GMJ bubble card which is of course of Spanish origin then there is the miscard/small bubble card which could either be Meccano or PBP - I don't think anyone really can say 100% just yet.

Those small bubbles are said to have been used by the Meccano factory to clear the overstock, this information is from Stephane Faucourt who has of course spoken to Meccano employees and looked at official documents over the years that support his information.

However certain collectors (unfortunately billy boy was one of them so...who knows if its true) place these miscards and indeed the entire overstock story with PBP in Spain.

I personally think it's likely that both companies/countries packaged overstock but Meccano did the majority, after all they both probably had a lot of it. I would like to know where certain collectors who believe it was PBP who packaged the miscards got their information from, I think it's probably assumption with little hard evidence but I can't say for sure, I know most people would trust a guy that wrote a book on the subject over collectors theories so ... go figure I guess. Either way its interesting for me so maybe in time the answers will come up in discussion.

Back to pomse's question - yes wrong weapons can and have been found on Trilogos, there are even figures without weapons and with too many weapons.

Cheers guys, I'm new to TIG, and would just like to say how great it is to be able to communicate with like minded collectors, the combined knowledge here is truly awesome!
This Stephane Faucourt, is that the guy who wrote the Meccano to Trilogo book? I've been after a copy for a while now, is it any good? I've read a couple of reviews, that gave it pretty good praise.

PBP(Spain) never used this kind of "Miscard/Overstock" bubble type. Believe me, it's exclusively a french production from late 1985. In Spain, production ended under G.M.J. control. Part of overstock figures was sent to France, the remaining one was simply destroyed (more exactely melted and re-used in other stuff...)

I am glad you share this opinion JC, it always made the most sense to me however if you go back over older threads on other forums ( RS mainly and imperial outpost ) BillyBoy and a few others were spreading "misinformation" about PBP being responsible for almost EVERYTHING Trilogo related, not just the dark coloured variants but the miscards and the overstock.

At the time, no-one thought to challenge Billy's knowledge of European products, yet as we know now he wasn't to be trusted Sad

Yes Stephane wrote Meccano To Trilogo but it is now sold out , you should check ebay and the classifieds for a copy perhaps.

You can read a little about the book in an interview I did with Stephane here - http://trilogo.info/trilogo-collector-interviews/stephane-faucourt/

By the time, Billy Boy was an impresive source of knowledge on European Stuff, mainly Palitoy. Just sad to see how he fell on the wrong side...
When something was unknown or unsure, it was easy to put it in the PBP bag because the few info we had on the company.

Today things are clearer, PBP, then GMJ, always used its typical large generic rounded bubble. "Miscard" bubbles were already used on the late RotJ 65back Meccano cards.
Last, the cardback texture of the "Miscard" is from Meccano, no doubt on this...

JC Very Happy
