PostSubject: Curious or not?   Curious or not? I_icon_minitimeFri Jun 10, 2011 9:57 am

Heres a thing. I had an excellent mint MOC rotj Lando, with a proper yellow bubble. I had him on display and he fell off the shelf, and cracked the bottom of the bubble.

So, (and don't judge) no amount of tape was going to fix him so i took him out and decided he'd be a "U" grade in my loose collection. But the funny thing is, although it says made in hong kong on the card, his COO has been scratched out. I have referd to the coo list here at TIG and he's number 6 i belive on the image list.

Now, if afa had been sent this loose figure, could they have cased it as a trilogo, or some such other variant?

Do you see where i'm going with this, ...? How do AFA know which figure belongs to which bubble, and moreover, how can collectors indentify where there figures came from, if the COO's don't "match" the cards. Hope this makes sense?

Perhaps this is common and i'm not really on to anything.

to my limited knolidge AFA doesnt mention what kind it is exept lili ledy,PBP.
otherwise it will be graded as no coo.
for a U grade you need to put the fig back in his bubble and then send him off for grading otherwise its just a loose fig.

i had contact with UKG for my LL vader and asked some questions about whats put on the label.
this case LL will be mentiond and that he comes with a letterd saber "W".

contact UKG for youre case with the tri lando skiff and see what they tell you they will do.

AFA will just look at the figure's body for a COO - if they can't find one then the COO will be labelled as "/--".
I am not sure how much knowledge they have when it comes to correctly labelling the company that released it i.e. Kenner, Toltoys, Palitoy, PBP, ect.

Working out what figure came from what card takes a lot of experience, help from friends and hard research work and that's just for one character. You have to take your hat off to the lads that do this for every character released. I personally think performing your own research quest is half the fun for collecting.

P.S. I would like to strongly recommend you don't deliberately U-grade anything - trust me you'll eventually feel shite.

i thought they still did, but instead off putting a big U in front off the score like "U90", they now just give a "90" score and write in little letters "uncircelated" in the corner or something like that (but i could be wrong here)....

LOL! I don't know why you are scratching your head mate - you suggested U-grading:

Sending a figure off back in its bubble to get a shity "U" infront of its grade is pretty much deliberate in my books!

Whoa, this thread went like a runaway train! LOL.

Let me just clarify, i dont send figs to the AFA, and i'm not grading the Lando. I dont worry about grading.

What i meant was that since he came crashing out of the card, i put him into my loose collection as a mint loose figure. I call it "U" just to be silly.

I agree ( just my own opinion and certainly not judging others) with the thread that
'U AFA" is not really good for the hobby. So lets put the whole AFA thing away for a second...this question has nothing to do with the AFA.

All i meant was that this lando (was ) on a rotj made in hong kong, run of the mill card back, yet his COO has been scarred out.

This was curious to me, because it made me think, for example if i were to give a variant collector this lando without any clue to which card it came from, they might assume it came from a trilogo. (but i'm ready to stand corrected)

So, This is my only question: Am i right to assume that this is weird that a scarred COO is odd to find on a typical ROTJ made in hong kong card? [b]

I gave up a long time ago trying to 'name' loose figures- ie. this is tri logo, this is palitoy because very few figures are unique to any particular card. There are obviously many exceptions but just as many can be found on more than one card. This may be due to the fact that figures were produced in certain factories and then sent to different ones to be carded.

That's good to know! I had no idea that cards and figures were produced in different factories. So, essentially, is there any way to tell what COO or COO scar variant a particular figure may have based on the card itself? It sounds like an impossibility, except in situations where you can get a glimpse of the COO from the side of the bubble or something.

If there is a way to tell what COO a figure is while on the card, it seems like there may be a million different card/COO combinations to try and collect!

Ok, here are some picture. Remember, this lando came off of this card. I took it off myself. I have not mixed it up, 100% this came off this card. Have a look.

Thanks, that is a NO COO figure not a scared out COO. I might be wrong here but I think If you have a read of Craigs Jedi Lime lite you'll see his Palitoy/Tri-logo loose lukes, they where made in the HK factory and then sent to Palitoy to be carded then sold. Maybe not sent to Palitoy but I think the same applies to your Lando and where sent to Kenner in the US. Who else they where sent to? Who knows but would be interested to find out.
