How to store as best you possibly can? Empty
PostSubject: How to store as best you possibly can?   How to store as best you possibly can? I_icon_minitimeWed Jul 13, 2011 8:16 pm

I just have a few questions about storing MOC's and baggies if anyone has any info.

I am pretty paranoid about packaging deteriorating. What is the ideal method of storeage inside a cupboard or on display? Say if I had a display cabinet with a light would that light start effecting the packaging? Would LED lights be a better option as I think they don't generate any heat or UV? although there more expensive. Is UV from a window a factor even if its not in direct sunlight?

Many Thanks!

I am in the process of looking for better lighting as well. I have heard that flourescent lighting is the worst as far as causing yellowing, etc. And that LED is currently considered the best. I'm not a huge fan of LED because of how blue the light is, but I've been told that you can get different LED's that put out a more natural light.

I couldn't find it, but I am almost certain there was a thread on here where someone that used to provide lighting for a museum or something talked about the best types of lighting.

Maybe someone else can chime in if they have the link.

Any UV light = BAD

Some UV blocking tint for your window in your collection room would be a good idea. Especially for baggies. Incandescent is better than fluorescent, but I believe that LED is best. I just keep my collection in a closet now with all the gaps covered and only open it to drool every now and then.

This has been a big worry for me too.

I would like to know what lighting is best. I keep the window blinds closed in the SW room and store my stuff in cupboards to block out the light.

It would be great to be able to display stuff in the new house with the correct lighting.

I'm sure it is Soren you are thinking of - here is the thread link:

I put UV film over the windows in my collection room, and keep dark blinds down all the time. I think the direct sunlight is your worst enemy. The lamps I have in the room are incandescent, but they're only on occasionally.

Thanks for the info, I'll take a look into UV film and LED's seem like the go.

One thing I read on RS about this subject was that the poster has all his collection in a room where the only time a light is on is when hes in it. I cant remember what type of lights he uses or what. I think it was LED's in the cabinets though, but regular house lights in the ceiling I think. You can get dimmer switches for those to only have low light coming off them.

I have used led in my glass cabinet for 5 years now. I think it works good. They give far less heat, are small and usually no uv. I have read that some leds actually can produce a low amount of uv. But the windows are my greatest problem.
