R2-D2 (C G.M.F.G.I. 1977 Made in Taiwan). 2. R2-D2 (C G.M.F.G.I. 1977 Hong Kong) Blue. 3. R2-D2 (C G.M.F.G.I. 1977 Made in Hong Kong). 4. R2-D2 (C G.M.F.G.I. 1977 Hong Kong) Light Blue but Silver Dome. 5. R2-D2 (C G.M.F.G.I. 1977 Hong Kong) Light Blue but Gold Dome. |

| never heard that chrome could turn into gold??? but in the proces of chroming goldlike finish is present, but if not rinsed properly you could get a goldlike finish. its a cool thing but not always accepted as a variant |

| If you can find any documentation, pictures etc that show Kenner intended to release R2-D2 with a gold dome then I think it would be easier to convince people it's a "legitimate" variation.
Most people agree that outside of certain factory mistakes/differences in paint application and colours available where the figure is produced most funny colours are just a result of age. |

| The gold is almost certianly a result of ageing, more the lacquer than the chrome it's self I think, I have a R2 sensorscope with a goldish dome, I also have a DS Droid that is fully gold, more so than C-3PO, there is a pic of itin one of my posts somewhere. It's not a variant, but it sure looks cool!
As to the original question, not really sure, but I've heard a few references to TAIWAN coo's being from some of the earliest versions. Only R2, Luke, Leia, Chewbacca, Vader & Boba have Taiwan COO's from the Star Wars set, four of which of course where in the early bird set. Wether or not early bird R2's had Taiwan COO's exclusively I would have no idea, never had the opportunity to look at one. |

| Thanks guys. Yes I also think some colors or maybe many colors is because of age. But it is funny to collect them and it gives many more variants I do not have any R2-D2 MOC so I can't convince anybody yet. So maybe the Taiwan version could be from the Early Bird set ? So does any of you have a R2-D2 MOC ? that could help with some ID. |

| Cool bags Marco I have read about and seen auctions about early bird R2-D2 from Hong Kong and Taiwan so could that be correct that the early bird R2-D2 was maid in both countries ? Marco why do you photograph with blue background is there a trick to learn there from you ? I have seen some people have a no coo R2-D2 but I have not found one yet, I think it is very hard to find. Do you know if that is real or is it just some people who had moved the head from R2-D2 to a sensorscope body ? Is there more R2-D2 variants ? |

Thanks joe with that link. But it still do not answer all my questions about if we can ID a loose R2-D2 and say this one is a palitoy and this one is a kenner just as we can ID the Lili Ledy figur by the screw. But I can see there is also Italian, Australian & a Japanese R2-D2. Maybe there is still many variants out there. Do you not have a R2-D2 MOC ? or do you only have Tri-logo MOC ? |

Cool, can you take a picture of each of the figures so I can see a larger picture ? I don't think I have such a variant. |
