Thats the only thing I hate about those old threads, most of the pix are gone. But the info in them is just as good. Heres some shots of _Rog_'s thats in that thread, hope he doesnt mind me using his webpage with the pix on it. If he does, I'll remove them.

Theres also one for the sticker too, but Im not 100% sure right off hand what it is. Theres a difference in the way it was made. Ill look and see what I can find on it real quick. Thought it was in that thread. The NO COO is not confirmed yet as far as I know. Theres just 2 HK ones. Check in Wolffs COO guide and it shows it

waaaaaaaait a second!!

The no coo is a fake! Not sure anymore but I think I hear the name billyboy ringing!

All bagged no coo Gonks came from one source (4-5 pieces I think), sold for muuuuuch money and all disappeared, because they were proven as fakes!

There is only 2 coos and a light and darkblue! Also a "maybe" questionable Poch variant...not proven yet.

Its not a PBP variant. You asked what POCH was and PBP and Poch is the same company. It was POCH before it was sold or however it went to PBP.

Geoff's pictures have disappeared Sad https://www.imperialgunneryforum.com/t3151-r5-d4-variants

please show side on pictures of the gonks, the easiest way to spot the variant is the 'red 3 step sticker' on the side
EDIT:
Power Droid Variant ? Gonk610

Thats just minor differences. I wouldnt call these variants. They can be degaradet or another batch of plastics! Its really interesting that Gonk has simply only one variant but it is like it is! Thats why everybody payed a lot of money for the faked no coo ones...all just wanted them to be real Wink

As I wrote here and there...the most confusing part is that everbody posting on such topics has different opinions. Ill try again:

You have asian producers who sent figures to european and us. There figures were packed and sold!

But you have small local producers who produced some/all of their released figures on their own! Completely from the injection process, painting, assembling, packaging, etc.

You have Lili Ledy, Top Toys, Glasslite and Poch/PBP.

Lili Ledy: produced their own toys completley. Therefore used copies of already existing steelmolds. In the case of the MIM figures they made new molds or altered some (vader/Yoda) and produced so much of them to even get them exported worldwide.

TopToys: Completley made their own steelmolds

Glasslite: Altered some molds. The production started 1988 JC said if I remember right. Thats really late. Even the copyrights were acquired already 1985.

POCH/PBP.: In the "Poch area" every figure is completely produced in spanish factory. In the later "so called" PBP area only some are produced in spain, other were delieverd from Taiwan and others were exported from spain in large numbers to Meccano, palitoy, etc.

Takara: Takara has 3 Japan marked figures. These are produced on their own. But on the other hand they just imported US cards and put their stickers on it.

There is still a lot of questions remaining:

- Toltoys: Why is there a special VC JAwa?? Toltoys never produced on their own, thats why normally there is no toltoys variants possible! On the other hand there is a specail Luke orange hair (different to US), a special VC Jawa and the Taiwan only Vader which are assumed to be unique to australia?????

- Meccano: Also this factory never produced on their own. BUT there is also some special figures to french Trilogo cards. All have one in common...they have unique coo:
You have a tusken, Rebel Soldier, Death Star Droid, Boba Fett, Ackbar, Luke Framboy...etc
On the other hand there is some PBP figures which are painted differently then in spain but seem to be made from the same material, like:
Luke Hoth, Tie Pilot, CCP pink face (ohh...I here them coming...yep to me this is a french trilogo figure...not proven yet...I know)

- Palitoy: There is a few figures which can only be found in GB. These are rare as hell sometimes. Most significant is the altered coos. But most of the so called Palitoy figures (the ones that appear there very often) can be found everywhere in the world. Did Palitoy produced on their own?? They sure did on some playsets....and I think also on some characters...but honestly I have no clue about Palitoy factory. To me its the dump place of figures from all over the world.......

There is soooooo many question marks that we have to get an answer to! But for people who are realtivly new in the buisness this is surely too much!

I myself started with galsslite...then with a few Ledys....then TopToys....later PBP and no coos....the all ccos...etc....so I always used to focus on one area. Just buying randomly figures and lots will not bring you forward one step IMO. There is always a difference between one and the same figure put next to each other. Imo you have to focus...let it be a charcter...let it be coos...or a special production line. Getting all at once will make you crazy! lol!

Hope I could bring some light into this....

BTW: this picture from me is not the best. But you can (maybe) see the faint light blue! It has different coo and complete different mold. This Gonk was incredible rare...not sure today?? I payed a lot of money for it , because my only chance to spot the first one was from a dealer...not possible on crappy ebay pix.

I have mine from Australia BTW...AJ...you have one?? Where did you found yours??

@Marco: Thanks...FOCUS lol!

Hi wbobafett, you are maybe right about I am getting crazy when I try to get all at once Twisted Evil But I would also say 10 years is not at once lol!

But 10 years ago I started to collect and my goal was to get all 96 figures loose and all the vehicles, playsets etc. etc. with box popcorn

But then I began to learn about variants, Droids, Ewoks etc. etc. etc. I also learned that it is expensive to buy 1 figure every time and get it mailed to me.

For me it is much cheaper to buy a lot, I learn so much and see so much in a lot if it is from a childhood collection study and also get some items that I can trade away when I get a lot.

I also meet other collectors, get new friends when I have something to trade with, I can meet with them or mail the trade to them cheers

Just to add my two cents, as a relatively new vintage collector, maybe 2 years, I find the COO variants overwhelming as well. Speaking from personal experience, no matter how much research I do on vintage Vader variants, it seems I know nothing, and constantly refer to this site for past posts for guidance.

After recently buying Jay's loose Vader collection, I can finally put them side by side to see the differences, but on their own, it's still difficult for me to discern which is which without outside assistance. At this point, the only one's I can tell from first site are the obvious ones like Ledy because of the saber, and the Made in Taiwan because of the different head.

I mean, I can see differences when I compare, but knowing the origins of each is still difficult of me. Even when using the COO guide to matchup which COO variants they are, after a while I go cross eyed looking at where letters line up, etc.

So essentially, I'd like to give a HUGE tip of the hat to the guys on here that are so knowledgeable they can spot a COO variant from a mile away.

Right now I'm glad I just focus on Vader. If I had to try and figure out hundreds of different COO's and variants, I think my head would explode.
