Chief Chirpa Hood Variants / Variations Empty
PostSubject: Chief Chirpa Hood Variants / Variations   Chief Chirpa Hood Variants / Variations I_icon_minitimeSun Feb 19, 2012 8:41 am

Hi All,

Was just sorting through some accessories and found a Chirpa Hood variant that I wasn't familiar with. I did some research on here and RS and couldn't find it so was going to just ask. It occurred to me that Chirpa Hoods were one thing (possible the only thing) that I think I have all the known variants of currently in hand. As such, I thought I would try and photograph them in case others were interested. I didn't do a great job (they're actually quite hard to photgraph as a group.) But I still think the following images may be useful or at least mildly interesting?

The first image are all the variants arranged in to small groups. It may be completely non-representative of rarity, but I thought it was interesting that I only had one 'B' and one 'C' compared to the other letters:

The second image is one example of each variant in a group shot:

The third image is a montage of the actual stamps/moulding inside the hoods:
Chief Chirpa Hood Variants / Variations 15p37zq

If anyone wants more/better, I'll gladly try. And feel free to ask any questions. If anyone knows what the one with the deep indent is, I'd be curious to know.

Best Wishes,

Jeremy

P.S. I'm always glad to try and do stuff like this if it helps anyone. It's nice to be able to contribute as well as ask for help. (As I am fairly ignorant, I don't have much to contribute for the most part.)

One thing I do keep thinking in terms of keeping records of variants on this forum, Is it might b cool/useful if people tried to agree on some kind of format for the images (approx size, angles used, approx colour of background etc) as it would make the info much easier to compile and compare. (I know this could also be awkward and there may be a good reason why people don't do this already) It just occurred to me that there seem to be a lot of people on here that are willing to make an effort and help out. The better this effort could be coordinated/marshalled (by someone senior) the better an archive of info would be produced I think.

I even wondered whether TIG could actually produce a background image (something very basic) that people could print up and use when photographing figures/accessories as a way of making it easier to keep things uniform.

This may all be ill-considered nonsense of course. (Feel free to tell me so.) Laughing

Great post Jeremy and good to see them all up in the one thread.

As for what comes with what I have no idea really except for a few thoughts, it's said that the the light hood comes with the white fur Chirpa, I don't know how true this is but it does make scene and I have a couple here with this combination which also have the light staff. I think there's 4 variants of the white Chirpa tough so I don't know if this is correct for all of them but maybe the small circle/dark was also a possibility.
The letters I'd say it makes scene that they come with the HK and No COO variants that are the same color, because of the shear amount.
The other thing Marco worked out is that the HK raised bar with the melted scar on was made in Macau where there's also a good possibility the raised bar white Chira was also made so could that be the circle/dark?

Who knows for sure but it would be interesting to see what others think.

Jeremy, nice research you did. In a couple weeks, Chirpa will be one of the FOTW's, can you repost all of your info in it? If he can get 5 more votes, he will be the next in line after Fett (hint, hint for those who havent voted yet. Wink )

Hi Scott,

Thanks so much for the kind words and the info. That all makes sense to me. Would be interesting to see if anyone knows any more.

Interestingly, Although I have around 15 staffs, I don't appear to have any colour variations at all. There are a handful with circle indents on them and pointed ends and most have no circle and sharper ends (both noted in Wolffs colour guide) But out of the 15, I don't appear to have any of the lighter brown ones. Are they much rarer? Is it a coincidence? Or am I failing to notice something obvious? Smile

@ Lars - Thanks for the kind words. Nice to read.

@ Chris - Thanks! Will gladly post them in the Chirpa thread. I have been reading the FOTW threads but haven't had anything different to contribute so far. It's a great idea though and you're doing an amazing job.

Best Wishes

-J

I know they are rare J because I've been looking out for them, they all seem to appear with the white Chirpa's described as the Palitoy variants. If you look at this pic you can see the difference, much more noticeable than the light hood.

Wow yeah. I definitely don't have one of those. I do have a couple of White Chirpas (Both H.K. COO) but no lighter coloured staffs. That is interesting though.

Interesting thread & great photos Very Happy

I can also confirm that the 'white fur' Chirpa came with the lighter coloured hood & staff (as I have had several pass through my hands).

I have not seen that one before. Can anyone confirm whether it might be a Top Toys hood?

The deep indent is a short pour?

Hi James,

Ok cool. So this is when there is not enough material (rubber) poured into the mould? So, the indented area is actually the injection point? (And the rubber volume was literally short by the amount it would have taken to fill that indent?) Just want to make sure I got it lol.
BTW , I have a weird IG-88 that I think is a short-pour. He has one very under-developed arm. (Maybe he watches a lot of porn. I've heard this can happen.) Wink
