Thought it would be cool to get a thread together listing all the talented TIGers out there.
You can add a pic if you like displaying your skill, but basically I wanna hear what you can do with those hands of yours when you aren't playing with yourselves or your toys.

My father taught me a little carving and knapping.
That's knapping with a K, although I am well trained in the other artform also. :cool laugh:
Bit more info here.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knapping
The carvings are based of Netsuke, which is a Japanese artform.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netsuke

Anyway. A couple of pics of what has come from these hands of mine. Nothing to flash. Something a little different than the norm though I think. Hope you like and hope some of you want to play along.

A few points.

This doesn't have to be an art and craft thing either. If you fix up cars, furniture etc etc...I wanna know What a Face
Anything that you can do with those hands of yours. Maybe you can just do good finger painting Razz

Was that chasing parts or, just finding time to do it, AJ?

It was a conversion so it was a combination of finding time, parts & money.
it was actually a full vehicle rebuild (excuse the picture of pictures)
The Dellorto carbs were a headache- I spent a few months on those alone
OT: Good with your hands. Sdc12315
I've done a few twin carb engines since( Datsun 1600 & 1200- actually 2000cc with Webbers & 1400cc with Jap SUs)
OT: Good with your hands. Sdc12313
A build I did for someone else- HG ute with 350 chev
OT: Good with your hands. Sdc12316
it was a real sleeper- looked like a good old original aussie ute, went rather fast Wink

The only thing I do well with my hand isnt suitable for public decree.

Josh I gotta say that that is some amazing handiwork. I wish I could do something like that!

AJ - Not to shabby on that engine either Wink

Wow, we've got some serious tallent here!
I particularly like the flint knapping as it's something I'd like to try one day. What material is your sailfish carved from Josh?

AJ, I can appreciate the work you put into your project. In the 90's a friend of mine used to spend all of his spare time (& cash) customising cars. When I first met him he was in the middle of totally stripping an engine & rebuilding it using additional parts. The result was more powerful & finished in a combination of electric blue paint & chrome.

They look ace. We might have to do a little swapsy down the track.
The ones above the bowl, are they knives? What is that bone from? Reindeer I suppose?
Your scrimshaw work looks ace also. I haven't tried that yet myself. I have some pieces here my dad has done + a few antique ones. All have been done on Sperm Whale teeth. Will get some pics later on of them.
I am having a read up on Wiki here about the Saami http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sami_people Pretty interesting stuff.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and for sharing some of your skills. I definately want to see some of your models arohk, when you get the time to post some pics up.

Thanks guys, they are knives yes, I'll take some pics of the blades later. The bones are reindeer antlers.
My scrimshaw work is amateur at best, you should see some of the stuff the "masters" of the craft do, blows my mind!
I'm all in for a swap mate! Cool

Nice display case Russ, looks cool, are those drawings in charcoal? I draw myself, but I could never do anything decent with charcoal. Razz

The painting of your wife and son is amazing Steve, and I love the sunset one!

Thanks Josh, I'm going to try to do some SW themed stuff to sell, but inspiration is hard to come by these days, I have 2 drawings to do
for a couple of swfuk members, was supposed to do some sketches due today, but haven't gotten around to it yet... lol!

I've always loved drawing, and having it as a job was always a dream, but making money off of it takes away some of the joy. Razz

Great idea for a thread!

Josh and Tundra your craft carvings are beautiful. AJ that's some skill and patience to work with cars like that. Russ I knew of your stained glass works but good to see some woodworking and drawing too! Steve I also already loved your art, great to see these pieces added here, I really like the 'Withering'. Josh and Tundra - cool drawing skills too! Scotty love those Killer Kustoms!

Awesome thread. All of ya'll are extremely talented . I have built and painted a few models over the years but I don't have pics as they are packed away somewhere. I have also started building star wars dioramas but don't having anything to show for it...yet. Also I did build my own shelving for my collection. The photos are actually quite old as I have added a lot to the collection since but the shelves are still the same.
