Tough Nuts to Crack Empty
PostSubject: Tough Nuts to Crack   Tough Nuts to Crack I_icon_minitimeSat Sep 29, 2012 10:29 am

Hi Chaps

I'm looking for the best way to dismantle a scout walker head. I recently bought a job lot on ebay, which contained two scout walkers. One complete, and one with a damaged mouth gun. I had a spare head with a perfect mouth gun, and wished to swap the two, but am having trouble getting the heads apart without creating any damage.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

welcome to TIG Section8

If you're wanting to remove the 'head' from the upper half of the 'body' or split the head in order to remove the 'mouth' guns, I doubt that it can be done without causing serious damage (If you do achieve it, please share the technique & post pics Very Happy )

IMO, if the colour match is good, it would be easier & safer to swap the head (complete with the upper half of the body) using the excellent guide Artoo_Detour (Paul) posted a link to Wink

Thanks for the welcome, links and suggestions.

The stickers on my spare head aren't great, so had hoped just to be able to swap mouth guns. A head swap seems the best move so far, and i can clean off the old ripped stickers to get a better look.

A hammer has been suggested on one of the links, but have already contemplated that option, and have decided against.

Thanks again.

Taa Daaaa

Tough Nuts to Crack P1130001
I had help from these chaps, who knew a bit about it.
Tough Nuts to Crack P1130002

The head is held together quite simply by 8 male and female rods and holes. Without sounding too rude, they fit very, very, very tightly together and a set of ridges in the female parts are there for grip. I did cause damage with a screw driver, but didn't really take any care in prising the two parts apart. If you could somehow go inside the head, and push outwards from the inside, perhaps like a mini car jack, you could push them apart, but is not at all easy. I did think that perhaps expanding foam may do the trick. Maybe thats the next experiment.

Anyone know what or where these are from. May or may not be star wars, but came in a joblot of Star Wars parts. Not too good with the modern Star Wars stuff.

Thank you for sharing your results.
I didn't realise that the two halves were just pushed together, I thought it would have also been sonic welded.

With regards to your mystery items. I believe the silver one is from the Britain's space series (see 2nd fig. from left). These came out around 1981.
