Lets keep this on topic. Any other discussion can go in the other thread. Topic on hand here is if your not sure its a variant, it could be a factory error. Post up any errors you have here and show off what your concerns are.

Ok - I'll Bite ....

Here is a unusual coo Emperor I have which I am pretty sure is not a legitimate variant . My opinion is that it is the result of a worn mold or some other factory type error . Regardless , it is different and I think it fits into this topic okay What a Face

Its items like that that i was wanting to see. Just cause the COO is off from what its suppose to look like, doesn't always mean its a variant. Like you said, its possible that it was a dirty mold that was used when that one was made. That's the purpose of this thread and the discoloured one. To help out people educate themselves on finding out what they have. There's plenty of talk about discoloured figures and actual variants that have been found. But you hardly ever see much talk about factory errors and how to spot them from a real variant. 90% of those so-called variants on ebay are just not what they are advertised as and that's all part of the self educating process with threads like this and others just like it. To help out the next guy/gal who comes along..

Here is a neat Hoth Rebel Commander with 1 short leg . I am sure it is a Factory Error of some sort but not sure of the cause . A molding error ? A overstock figure that was assembled from missmatched parts from different figures ? I may be wrong but at some point I have read or heard "somewhere" that towards the end of Kenners run figures were sometimes cobbled togeather from extra parts from different factories and released in the Tri Logo packages - kind of a last ditch effort to get rid of their remaining stock . As I said , I have no idea if this is true so don't yell at me - I'm sensitive Sad lol!

I do believe it is a factory error but regardless , I really like factory errors . I love the uniqueness factor What a Face

I heard/read the same thing. Overstock figures tossed in with what weapons were there on whatever card was on hand. To me those are the coolest Tris there are.

heres another - Pin head Lando jawdrop

I assume that this is some type of Factory Mold/Sculpt error but I like him anyway . I do have more detailed pics of him alone (including the coo) if anyone wants to see them feel free to ask and I will be glad to post them . For now here is a comparison pic with a "normal" size head Lando .

Great thread Chris, I have a few errors in my collection so will get some pic's up when I get a min.

Another explanation for this type of thing IMO is whats known as a short shot or short pour, when there isn't quite enough plastic injected in to the mold and in this case didn't quite fill the COO. The same thing applies with your Rebel Commender's short leg?

Short answer (from phone)

Rebel Commander: might it be a short shot, less plastic injected in the mould, causing more shrinkage when cooling down.

After reassembling you have anormal and short shot leg.

EDIT: Scott is thinking the same but was quicker. Very Happy

ahhhh...short shot - now I understand what that term means - thanks fellas Very Happy

This Rebel Commando probably falls into the "Short Shot" Factory error catagory then ? He is short shot arround the waist area (huh huh huh... Angry SW ) - can't remember for sure but did you get this guy from me Marco ?

It would still be an interesting piece to get a hold of. It may be a custom, but it is a damn good one. As a customizer my self, I would like to have a better look at the side by side, head comparisons.

It is a custom figure made from a Ledy Prune Face, as James pointed out. Made in Mexico in the 90s?

Nevertheless a very cool custom. I missed out on one last year, so if your source has a second one available....
