Hey fellow collectors,

I came across a FX-7 which is particularly unsonic welded! I thought I'd share......because I have never seen one dismantled! Cool

Have you ever seen.....a dismantled FX-7 ????? Img_4334b

So this fellar is made out of 6 parts I would say.
First up is the head (1). The head is then screwed to the "top part" (2).
The "ring" with the "clamp" (3) is made out of a more rubbery plastic and was just pulled over.
Next up is the white ring of several "arms" (4) that was inserted to the main torso.
The main torso is made out of two parts (5+6) sonic welded together.

The last step would be to put screwed together head+top part+arm ring on top of the main body with inserted arms.

The "claws" from the main torso limit the head while extending!

Hope you like it!

Cheers

Wolff

Here is the one that I have, but I'm not sure it just wasn't broken. I haven't had time to look that closely at it yet. The "screw" on this one seems to be more like a rivet. I haven't had the nerve to grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers. It has a #3 COO.

As you can see, the ring of arms has been completely destroyed.

thanks for sharing wolff. I never expected the arms to be one single piece. I dunno I thought all arms were separated bits fixed to the body. ..this means I don't have an engineer brain and I never think about the easiest possiblity lol!

Now that I see it in pieces, it kind of makes sense how it was put together. I'd kind of wondered how they did it.

Nice Wolff!

Now I'm curious. I just tried to turn the "rivet" out with a pair of pliers. It didn't budge. Would it be like an actual rivet and it would be either pushed into the plastic "neck" piece. Or would it have screw like threads and put into place with a "special" tool????? My next step would be to try boiling the part for a few minutes to heat up the rivet enough to loosen it up. If that doesn't work, I would be willing to sacrifice it to the band saw or hammer. Anyone with any thoughts on how to get the rivet out?????

I would imagine there is a good chance that the shaft of the rivet would have a series of raised angled rings to hold it in place.
I have a couple of 'beaters' if the coo matches yours Clint I'll take a look to save sacrificing yours.

I also broke apart a beater one now.....rivet in there too!

The rivet seems to be standard Kenner assembling!

The one shown above which is unsonicwelded and with screw I assume to be Poch prodcued...though..... Wink Very Happy

The first 'beater' I found has COO #1 (it came apart surprisingly easily). This one has a small screw & a washer.

Looking at the arms, Clints appears to have a long sprue at the top of the central section. Mine is slighly recessed. Is yours hollow Wolff?

ahar...another screw..but different.

Yours looks like R2-D2 screw with washer...mine more like R5...

Arms...which arms are we talking now?? The spider or the clamp??

The clamps exist in three molds (3 mold families Wink )

So the spider has obviously also 3 different forms.....I will check later! Wink

Cheers

I was refering to the 'spider' Wolff.

I wander whether the sprue protruding from the top of Clints spider arms might account for the aparant lack of sonic welding (gap created between lower & middle body?). When I reassemble mine there is very little gap between the top of the spider arms & the screw (with the head in a down position), so I don't see how this apparantly long sprue could be accomodated with the head down. Could Clints be a factory error?

Clint, what does yours look like assembled with the sprue pointing upwards?

The long "sprue" was pointing down to the base when I pulled it apart. The head won't go down with the sprue pointing up into the head. When I went back to Wolff's original pictures, I could see just barely see the edge of the sprue behind one of the arms. Here are some pictures of how it was put together. Hope this helps. Very Happy Very Happy

Wollf, could you post some pictures of the carnage?

Steve, this was an extra #3 COO that I had, so it can still go under the knife to see how the rivet is fastened in.

Only cut it open if you really want to Clint.

Thanks for the additional pics showing how the arms were fitted. On mine the hole points down & the sprue break up, so I incorrectly assumed that yours would have been the same. Embarassed
I'll try to take some pics of mine tomorrow.

It's good to be able to uncover some potentially new information about these figures.

Steve, that's great. It was not much wonder you thought the long sprue went up into the head and the hollowed out short stub went down to the base. Very Happy Thanks for the pictures.

Thanks Clint. Had I taken the time to think about it logically, I should have reallised the sprue on yours would have to be fitted pointing down into the body cavity.
I'll blame the missing arms lol!
