Need some help with figuring out this one? The Made in HK Black writing should be a heat sealed baggie right? This one is taped?

Identification Help of a Chewbacca Baggie Empty
PostSubject: Re: Identification Help of a Chewbacca Baggie   Identification Help of a Chewbacca Baggie I_icon_minitimeSat Apr 06, 2013 1:35 pm

Hello,

I've never seen a Bagged Chewie like that one. You absolutely right if it were a SW-D it should be heat sealed. However, the one thing I'm confused about is that the baggie pictured is very long considering it contains a Chewie. The bag might originate from another line. Thinking of buying it? Don't. Already own it? Pls let us know the previous owner.

Cheers,
Christian

PostSubject: Re: Identification Help of a Chewbacca Baggie   Identification Help of a Chewbacca Baggie I_icon_minitimeSat Apr 06, 2013 3:34 pm

Figured since I'm the one selling it I'd chime in.

I originally bought this baggie from a member on RS with some other Early Bird baggie figures a few years back before I had done my research. I showed it to a few other collectors and it is believed to not be real, so that's why I'm selling it as is and basically the price of a loose Chewbacca. Here's my description too, so no ill intent is meant.

Quote :
This Chewbacca baggie is a bit of an oddity as I’ve never seen a baggie like this before. It has horizontal black text and all the ones I’ve seen before this have been heat sealed, so I am selling it as is. I’ve taken pictures of both sides and an up close one of the tape seal. I honestly don’t know if it is legit or not, so buy at your own risk. The figure inside at least appears to have been unplayed with and shows no signs of wear.

If you're seriously considering it or want to know more history on it, pm me and I'll put you in touch with the previous owner. I just figured it was my loss because I didn't ask him about it right after I bought it.

Shawn it's a Minty looking Chewie non the less. So of course I did buy, pm already sent elsewhere on that deal Wink I knew the baggie was longer and I did read your Description, I was not confused, and I've asked elsewhere as well so It's not like a bad price Wink

Sorry Shawn if it seems I was throwing you under the bus which obviously I was not by posting photos only Very Happy

I was shown a sw-d Chewie by a current owner so as I stated I could plainly see the longer baggie.

Christian Thank you for looking out for me, always appreciated! cheers As soon as I receive it...I'll be the owner Wink and relieve Shawn of his duties.

No worries at all Paul. I just wanted it known that I was not trying to misrepresent this item, as most familiar with my pictures, would know it was me. Smile

Thanks for the sale. At least you'll have a nice loose Chewbacca.

Thanks for the PM Shawn. I think I may be the one that sold it to Shawn. I, in turn, bought it from a trusted well known vintage collector on RS along with the other 2 EB baggie figures and a tray (not Luke). I won't name him here. Maybe he didn't know. I think he gave me a pretty good price if I rememebr correctly. I may not even have the PMs in RS from the guy I am thinking of, as I purged many of them when we were allowed to only have 150. I was surely dense in never checking closely myself when I owned it. Funny how we let our guard down and don't look at things closely as we should when we buy from a trusted source! I am guilty of that, it appears. I got my DT Luke seperately; was the steward of the EB set for years; and then was coaxed into selling my DT Luke. The 3 figures EB set seemed silly, so I sold the compenent parts (I also picked up some foot pegs at the Kane County Toy Show that didn't come from the original RS member). Please PM me with any questions as this semester is really busy for me and I've sadly been away from the hobby more than I like (on RS if I don't resond here right away).

You don't think not stating in your description that you had shown it to other collectors, and they considered it to be not real, is a little bit left field? Adding in "you honestly don't know if it is legit or not" is a bit weak don't you think, Shawn? That's like selling something that has not passed AFA certification and not stating in your description "Did not pass AFA certification".

Obviously you sold it for the price of a loose Chewy, and I am sure there was no ill intent on your behalf...just can't see why you were loose with the description, and what you knew about it, like including/sharing the info/opinions gathered from other collectors you had look at the piece.

Christian, in this thread, is the first to give a definitive answer. I'd have to dig up the old pm from the other person I asked on this, but I still think it boiled down to not a 100% this is not legit. I listed it at what I thought was best. I still wouldn't say I know for certain, other than as of now it is most likely fake. Yes, my description is "weak" because i still didn't know exactly myself, but I also didn't slab it up, put a grade on it, and include a COA.

Sorry, I understood your comment " I showed this to a few other collectors, and it is believed to not be real", as being, more than one other person you discussed this piece with...when you acquired it.
Like I said I don't think your intent was to deceive. Just found it odd you didn't mention in your description what you have since shared in this thread, Shawn. Surely you can see where I am coming from?

Thanks Josh. I will take your comments into consideration on how I list, if I ever have an item like this being sold again.
