My post from Lee_m's FS thread: https://www.imperialgunneryforum.com/t3912p75-fs-rare-euro-ledy-variantsnew-12-6-13#99457 was deleted, so I thought I would post it here.  It went something like this:

How did you get hold of these?

A civil discussion on the ethics of ending auctions early that have active bids in place.

If that is what happened, then it's down to the seller.

I too was watching the Luke Hoth figure and had my ebay sniper primed and ready.

Win some lose some, that's life.

A discussion on this topic could have been started without a 'dubious' question (that's how i read it this morning) in the classifieds sections. Like in the main chat section.

But i clearly must have taken this different than intended by the topic starter, if so excuse me.

And you've just signed up here again as our newest member Matth.barth!!

So perhaps you can answer this: I've always wondered what's in it for the seller to end an auction early?  They save ebay fees & get a price they are happy with.  But risk losing potentially more money if there is a second, third... bidder.  They can 'protect' this by ending the auction and putting it up for sale with a BIN/near offer at the price they were offered or more.

Yes I have cause I could not find my initial password!! (I found it in the meanwhile).
You're right re. early ending and this is something I have not done very often. This time I was satisfied with the offer I received (from someone known in this forum...) and I needed to sell fast. be sure that I received many other offers from other eBayers!

Hello Matth welcome to the boards and thanks for posting here and clearing things up a little Wink

I think the point flycasual is trying to make is that he doesn't like ebay auctions ending
early and/or items being resold on/flipped. He posted (what i felt) a little sarcastic jibe
in my FS thread which i felt inappropriate and asked a mod to edit/delete (which he did - Thankyou)

Now, on the subject of ebay auctions ending early etc; From my perspective, there are times when i have to buy and flip
stuff quickly to make ends meet financially outside of the hobby. It is something i am generally good at and these quick
deals are just business to me. I am not trying to come across as arrogant, just honest. It is not something i do all of
the time and i am fortunate to have some very good contacts all over the world and outside of ebay or any forums
that i can buy/sell from so don't need the ebay way all of the time.

I will mention also that i contacted the seller before any bids had been made.

Auctions ending early on ebay has been happening for years and there has been and is plenty of it going on
in within the SW community as well as in other hobbies/antiques/comic books etc.  I just accept it as part
of the hobby and the ebay world. I get stumped myself on items that i am watching and they suddenly disappear.
This probably happens to me once or maybe twice a month.

In an ideal world, once a bid is placed on any ebay item then the seller shouldn't/wouldn't be able to cancel the auction.
This would stop all the 'off' ebay activity on live auctions.

Whether you agree or not with my principles is up to you but this is how i rolled the dice on this particular deal.

Matth - Good luck with your sale of a second Luke hoth!!

All the guys that talk and discuss/ask variant questions via email - keep 'em coming...i love the variant talk...

...and finally....my little meccano pdf guide is maybe halfway there and will available to all sooner rather than later hopefully Smile

Cheers, Lee

Looking forward to the meccano guide Lee, can't we have a work in progress one posted on the net and you update it as time goes on?

Let me think about it Stefan - i'd rather see it all together in one go rather than bits and bobs and whenever i post up pics nowadys they are all different sizes(when they shouldn't be) for a couple of days (anyone explain this?) and it would do my head in not looking right - LOL

I've experience the picture size issue, it has something to do with the height as well as the width of the original.
Which is why nowadays I make all my images identical in size, that way it never fails Smile

Maybe macro "the guide master" could offer some useful advice?

Although you have not technically posted in the classifieds, you are trying to sell an item on TIG and you may wish to check the guidelines out first...

Good thread...

While I see the point from both sides, I personally have to agree that is grimy to cancel an auction AFTER a bid has been entered.

I flag those and do not spend my money with them.

I understand when it's a BIN, and I didn't jump on it fast enough, but don't tell me I'm the highest bidder & then shut it down because you decided you want more money for it.

It's a contract that if  reversed & I didn't pay for the item because I found it cheaper you would lose your mind trying to enforce it.

And there's my wooden nickels worth...

Matth,

No worries i'm just offering some friendly advice, I believe the rules where put in place to stop scammers trying to sell bogus goods. The 40 post rule allows the rest of us to get to know the seller first before parting with or cash.

Welcome to TIG and good luck with the sale Wink
