paper mold should i be concerned? Empty
PostSubject: paper mold should i be concerned?   paper mold should i be concerned? I_icon_minitimeWed Oct 09, 2013 11:37 am

Got a nice package toy today but has i opened the box i discovered that the inside is contaminated with apparent mold. its the typical brownish spots that appear here and there on the insides of the box. It is not extremely bad but i just want to make sure i take precautions on this. Is there anything i can or should do to prevent spreading or just isolate the piece and leave it as is.... or something i can use to ensure it does not get any worse...

I have seen this before on some of my older comics but they dont seem to spread after a while.

let me know your tought on this.

thanks

Not an expert on this but most molds can produce spores to spread themselves. So I would keep the box closed to prevent contamination of other paperwork.

Molds need oxygen while slowly digesting their food: your vintage paperwork). Putting your box in a jar under a pure nitrogen atmosphere would do the trick to prevent further growth but is not very practical, I admit.

Also try to lower humidity to slow down further growth.

Hope this helps.

Would some direct sunlight kill the mold ?

Just wondering if a little time out in the sun would kill the mold and dry up any possible moisture that may still be in the paper

Please don't take my idea to heart without confirmation from the other guys here Bud - its just a theory unsure

You probably kill the molds due to the sudden temperature rise, but you won't kill the spores as they are designed to be more heat resistant.

Good internet source, Pat! Very Happy
