I think Alex should design an exclusive tattoo that ALL attendees have to get (once the Rohypnol kicks in) to mark the occasion. Wink

I'm currently looking at the logistics & cost (It will be over a 700 mile round trip for me).

Thanks for the thought Alex, if I can make it, I will have my wife and daughter with me. Due to work & school commitments, we are looking to potentially fly to Leeds on Friday evening & take it from there.

I'm looking into flights too, as it is an 860 mile round trip. But flights from Newquay are crazy!
it may work out cheaper to fly to London first, as I have more choice of airlines.

Thank you for the offer Alex. Hopefully I should know whether we can make it within the next couple of days. If I can't, it won't be for the want of trying.

lol! yeah I bet folks in the U.S, Australia, Canada etc.. wonder what all the fuss is about. A five hour drive between cities is probably nothing to them Smile

According to Google, it's a 7 and a half hour drive each way for me. So If I left at 9 am,  I could be in Scarborough   by five ish pm  (including stopping time).
its straight up the M5 and keep heading north Very Happy

Not entirely sure Andy, but my mate lives in Middlesbrough and that isn't too far away from Durham and when he visits ne it takes about an hour to get here give or take with traffic.

So what's the plan, would we attend the event on both days or just one?

The main day will be Saturday, I will definately be attending both days which would be best, if you've come this far you may as well enjoy the whole thing Smile

If coming on the Friday makes it easier to attend the whole event, then accommodation at mine for the Friday night as well is not a problem folks.

Just so long as you all chip together to get me drunk (this means I will likely pass out which decreases your chances of being molested , so a good thing Razz )

I'm gutted, but unfortunately, despite my best efforts, circumstances are conspiring against me & I won't be able to attend this event.  Crying or Very sad
I really hope that those that can make it will have a fantastic time, & I'll look forward to seeing the photo's and hearing the stories (Alex will make a fantastic host!) Very Happy
All being well, there will be a chance to do this again in the future.

So travel up late Friday, piss up, sci-fi con sat, piss up, sci-fi con sun and travel home PM and back to boring work on mon. Is this the basic plan for most?

Just so I can plan ahead as I've already got to take the missus and kids away to make up for it.

I hope so Alex!

I feel bad about it, especially when I think of the effort that you are going to, and the effort people like Marco and Chris are making to travel greater distances than me.

We'll have to discuss SW & G N' R in person another time.

Travel wise I have several options....

1) Train @ apprx £70-£80 return from either S-O-T or Macclesfield (both a 10 mile drive from my house)

or

2) Car approx. 270 mile round trip at 3hr each way.

I'm fancying the driving option myself, so am I passing anybody on the way up from Stoke?

Mate other than it being situated in the UK this looks like a fun convention and I'll definitely try to come. I think I'm free I just have to work out travel logistics. Might do London first, then train it from there. Do you guys have electricity or should I bring my own hand held power generator?

The wife won't make it (tell all your single female friends I'm coming alone - stuff it, tell your male friends too - we only live once) as she doesn't have a visa. Being from an Arab country it takes her about 50 years to get a visa to the UK....

Thanks for the invite!
