PostSubject: Whats the best reference guide / publication for figures etc ?   Whats the best reference guide / publication for figures etc ? I_icon_minitimeThu Mar 25, 2010 12:27 pm

Hi all I just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on what the best publication would be for getting further information on the classic/vintage figues in loose/MOC including the vehicles, creatures and accessories from the same three original films ?
Thanks
Tony

They aren't that expensive.

$100 + postage would get you one from ebay or a seller on RS

$100 is "not that expensive"...for a BOOK?!? Hell man, I just paid $1.25 for my copy of "Europe Through the Back Door" by Benjamin Dover!

Seriously though, I have heard of the Kellerman book, looks to be a great piece for sure. Still in all though, thats very high for a book, not even my college texts were that high. (Usually..)

I suppose that a VERY enterprising person (IE: NOT me) could scour the net and research every shred of information on the vintage line and print away, but thats a LOT of legwork.

Cheers,

Andre

$100 is cheap for the Kellerman book. Check out prices on Amazon. Theres only one on there and its listed at $275. I have seen them on there for over $350 before. I think I paid $125 for the one I had (wish I never sold it now).

If your looking for some cheaper alternatives than I would recommend these

Star Wars Action Figure Archive

Star Wars: From Concept to Screen to Collectible

Neither of these books go into as much detail as the Kellerman book, but are still pretty good references. The Action Figure archive has some really nice loose figure and carded figure pictures, but some of the loose figures are pictured with the wrong colored weapons. It also has pretty decent pictures of most of the vehicles, playsets, creatures shown with unused contents.

The Concept book is great to learn about what happened behind the scenes in the making of the Toys. It quotes several of the top people at Kenner that were involved with the line. It also features some very nice full page pictures of the pictures from the boxes of the toys and a nice two page spread of the 93 back photo.

Hi guys
Thanks and just to advise I managed to pick up a copy of the Sansweet Action figure archive from Amazon (£16) so please feel free to offer elsewhere.
I like the look of the Star Wars: From Concept to Screen to Collectible so will try and locate a copy.
Even though the first book is basic I have picked up some more invaluable info Very Happy
Cheers

lol! Wolff

Wolf - you shark!!!! lol!

My favourite books are:

1) Star Wars: From Concept To Screen To Colllectible

This has to be my all-time favourite Star Wars book for so many reasons. It helped reignite my love of everything Star Wars back in 1994/5; It helped me remember all the toys I had (and the ones I didn't); It told me about all the figures - including the names I forgot and characters that I didn't know existed. There is plenty more to see as well as the chapters on toys and is a well worth reading.

If you have any money left after buying you latest stash and you buy one book then please let this be it! (I have 3)
Link to Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Chronicle-Books-Staff/dp/B000H2N0LW/ref=sr_1_1_oe_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1269645217&sr=1-1

1) Tomart's Price Guide to Worldwide Star Wars Collectables

This was the second book I bought back in the day. The prices are way out!!! 62 POTF Coin Framed Double Set was a tenth of the price back then Sad . However, it has pages and pages of vintage stuff and I still pour through the pages even today. It would give you a good flavour on what is out there and what areas you can focus on. There are more up to date guides like Gus' and Duncan Price Guide to Star Wars Collectables but I haven't bought mine yet. There are two editions of Tomart's Price Guide. The 2nd edition includes the Kenner re-release toys up to 1997.

1) John Kellerman's Star Wars Vintage Action Figures

This is my second favourite book and is always on my coffee table! Once you have a good general knowledge of the vintage toys then this book will be a great for learning more. It is a little expensive (as already mentioned) but the contents far outweighs it's price. Shop around though as I have seen a couple sell on the bay for around $50.

I use it for looking up all the major variations of Action Figures and Toys. It has chapters containing details of USA Action Figures, Toys, Packaging & Card Varaitions POTF Coins, Mailers, and Promotional Stuff.

1) Stephane Faucourt's Meccano to Trilogo

Last but not least on my coffee table is Meccano to Trilogo. Another great book which lists the all you need to know about the Trilogo cards as well as the French Meccano range of figure and Toys.

All I need now is a book dedicated to Palitoy!

Those are all great books Craig which I also have in my library.

Tomarts still sell the hardcover 2nd edition price guide which has a lot more color photos and a section in the back full of prototypes exclusive to the hardcover.

I would keep a look out as last year they had them for a little while at $14.95. Right now they have them back up to the $79.99 price. Makes me wish I would have picked up a few more copies.

Nice one Shawn!

I was thinking about getting an additional copy as mine is well used. I didn't know there's a HB version. Thanks for the tip dude.

Don't forget to add Gus and Duincan's Comprehensive Guide to Star Wars book to the list. I also like the Star Wars Collectors Wish Book, which they just released the 5th edition last month. Amazon has it up for $19.77 right now.
