This thread is a cool idea! Especially since I don't have a clue about vintage toys.

So here's my first question: What does "YPS" mean? I'm always seeing YPS Snowtroopers and I have no idea what that refers to.

Thanks,
DarthTad

YPS actually refers to the magazine this particular figure was a free gift with in Germany.

Here is the magazine -

And the figure that came with the magazine -

You can read the differences here -

Alright, here's another question.

What is a "Trem," and how is it different than any other figure?

Model Trem's are bootleg Star Wars figures made in Brazil. They are made out of lead and resin, although the lead figures are the most common. Model Trem was a company known in Brazil for model train parts. This was the only way that the children of Brazil had SW toys to play with until Glasslite came to fruition.

Here's a great link on the archive about them: Trems

These are really cool bootlegs (IMO anyway). And finding them with the box and weapon(s) is quite difficult. Prices on these range quite a bit. I've seen some in the neighborhood of $300 or more.

Does anyone know of a comprehensive MOC checklist online? I saw the one at RS, but it is very basic. I'm looking for something that has each character with known cardbacks that I can print out and check off.

For example:
Darth Vader
12-a
12-b
12-c
20
21
etc.

If anyone knows of anything like this, please let me know.

Thanks!

I have started going through loose figures because I figured that was the best way to learn about identifying figures and weapons. Anyway, I have a pretty beat up Chewbacca, but the COO says "Made in Hong Kong." The only ones I could find on the site just said "Hong Kong." I couldn't find a picture of it on highasakoit, so I was wondering what I have. Variant, error, or is the picture just missing from the site?

Any guidance would be cool. And thanks again to all of you for your help so far! This site is by far the most welcoming and laid back vintage site I've found. Very Happy

As most of you know now, I'm just starting to get into vintage collecting after collecting since 1995. I figured the best way to get familiar with vintage figures was to buy an inexpensive lot of loose on e-bay, so that I could get used to weapons, COO, variations, condition, etc. Well, I just received my first batch of these, and I'm wondering what the best way to clean them is. Most are non-mint, loose limbs, etc., but they are also very gunky and played with. I knew these weren't going to be the end all be all additions to my collection, but I would like to at least clean them so they're not as nasty when I'm handling them.

Any suggestions on how to de-gunkify old figures quickly?

Question :-

Speeder Bike COO's

Ive just checked all my bikes that are open and found 7 to be Made in Taiwan but found 1 that is Made in Maccau. Is this a rarer version ? or have i just been getting more TW ones by chance ?

Also is there a HK version ?

The person to talk to about Speeder Bikes is Uli (Idefix13). He put together a really nice picture identification guide on Speeder Bikes about halfway down this thread.

I have a bunch of loose vintage figures that I bought in a lot on ebay. Is there a recommended reference list that shows all the accessories that should go to which figure?

For example, if I have an ewok figure, where can I find a list of the accessories that should accompany him? Also, I've seen in some rudimentary research on here that there are different color blasters etc. How do I know which variation of blaster or other accessories belong to each particular figure I have?

And, how can I tell repro weapons from original?

Thanks guys.

Thanks AussieJames!

As far as all the color variants for blasters go, how do I know which one goes with the figures I have? I saw that some will show as "confirmed on MOC 77-a" etc. But how do I know if I only have the loose figure without knowing which cardback it came from? Or does it even matter?

The colour variants of weapons is a real difficult one to match up to loose figures. Apart from foreign variants that have a specific weapon I'm not sure how to match them (& not really sure with the foreign variants either Embarassed )
